How to Whiten Underarms
Posted on August 13th, 2009 by CarmeliaDark underarms are caused by a combination of genetic factors, underarm deodorant, shaving and plucking underarm hairs. It’s a common problem for women worldwide, but thankfully, there are a couple of things you could try to get rid of dark underarms. Here’s how to whiten underarms.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating your underarm skin could help inhibit melanin production. Melanin contributes in the darkening of your skin, in this case, your underarm. Use a mild exfoliant twice a week. Do not do it more often than that, as too much exfoliation may actually cause your underarm to darken further.
Drink Water
Drinking the recommended amount of water daily, around 10-12 glasses, will help not only your overall health but your underarms as well. This will help curb down the production of melanin in your body.
Lemon Juice
Slice a whole lemon to two, and rub the lemon slices on your underarms. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes, and rinse. Do this twice a day everyday.
Change Your Deodorant
Some deodorants may be effective in keeping sweat away, but causes your underarm skin to darken. If you notice that your deodorant is causing your underarm to darken, change your deodorant immediately. Finding the right deodorant that doesn’t cause dark underarms may be found through trial-or-error, but don’t lose hope.
Look for a deodorant that contains Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Glycine, as this is more tolerable to skin. It’s also less prone in causing acne or irritation in your underarms.
Find Alternatives to Shaving, Waxing or Plucking
Regular shaving, waxing or plucking can all be sources of irritation and hence, dark underarms. Alternatives like laser treatment once a month to remove hair from your underarm leave you with skin that isn’t marred by darkening. Depilatory creams are a cheaper alternative to laser treatment, provided that you don’t use them so often.
Go Natural
There are many underarm whitening products out there, but make sure to keep an eye out for products that use nature-based ingredients. These include:
- Licorice extract
- Mulberry extract
- Bearberry extract
- Glycolic acid
- Emblica powder
- Lactic acid
Peeling Products
There are a number of underarm peeling products in the market. Do a careful research on them, and try them out yourself. If you feel that the product is causing irritation, stop using it immediately.
