The popularity of leg warmers go back to the 80’s but these cute fashion accessories are making a comeback, especially for girls who want to spice up their outfits. If not worn the right way, though, they can appear tacky instead of stylish. Here are several helpful tips to keep in mind when wearing leg warmers.

What You’ll Need:

Wear Them With Jeans

Remember that leg warmers already add color and texture to your outfit, though, so keep the top and jeans as subtle as possible. Dark hued jeans and a solid top with an attractive cut would be great. Wear flashy jewelry with them. Complete the look with a pair of slip-on high heel shoes or chunky-heeled boots. It’s a fun and sassy getup for any day.

Try The “Grungy Look”

Leg warmers may look sleek and stylish, but you can throw together a rugged, “grungy” look. Get old ripped jeans, a pair of hiking boots and a rumpled shirt with a vest. Push the leg warmers as far down to your ankles, as fas as they can go, positioning them over the top of the hiking boots. Try this tough-looking getup if you don’t feel very girlish.

Leg Warmers Go Well With Spandex Pants

If you really want to look like someone from the 80’s, get a pair of spandex pants to go with your leg warmers. Update the look by wearing an over-sized men’s shirt and a belt. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors, depending on your mood.

Mix Them With Mini Skirts Or Dresses

For a sweet, girlish outfit, wear a mini-dress or mini skirt with your leg warmers. If your dress or skirt is patterned or colorful, choose a solid pair of leg warmers, and vice versa. Raise the warmers as high as your upper knee. Since you won’t be very insulated in this type of outfit, it’s best to wear this during cool days. To complete the look, wear with small-heeled shoes, flats, or even small boots. Unless you want to look juvenile and childish, don’t wear this getup with sneakers.

Layer The Warmers

If it’s really chilly, out, here’s something fun you can do with your leg warmers: pair them up to compliment one another. Whether it’s with jeans, stretch pants or a dress or skirt, this will look great. Make sure the color contrast isn’t too bright, though. Put the first pair on tightly, without scrunching down, then pull on the next pair. Scrunch them both to a level that looks flattering.

Some Tips:

  • Opt for smooth and sleek leg warmers instead of bulky ones. Light cotton and spandex types are funky, but still show your legs’ nice shape.
  • Your warmers should go over your shoes.
  • Be careful when layering leg warmers. If not worn properly, they can give your legs a bulky appearance and would not look good at all.

The next time you throw together an outfit that looks drab, pull on a pair of leg warmers. It’s a classic look that will definitely add style to your getup!
