A fascinator is a fashion accessory that’s quickly taking its place among the more popular hats, clips and other hair accessories these days. Fascinators are characterized by feathers, beads, ribbons and other materials attached to combs, headbands and clips. If you’re interested in wearing a fascinator, here’s how you can wear them.

Tools

  • Hairspray
  • Bobby pins
  • Fine-toothed comb

Procedure

Fascinators may look complicated, but that’s what they’re supposed to do. Depending on the underlying contraption they have underneath, they can be quite simple to wear.

  1. Make sure that your hair has been washed, conditioned and thoroughly blow-dried before attempting to put on the fascinator. If you want your hair styled in an updo, in curls, or simply tousled, you have to do it before you even put the fascinator on.
  2. Decide on what spot on your you’ll be putting the fascinator on. Generally speaking, it’s best to put it on one side of your head instead of placing it dead-center on top of your head. Most fascinators are tall, and when placed center, would make your head look like a pineapple.
  3. If your fascinator is attached using a comb, you can simply comb back one side of your hair using your fingers. Attach the fascinator so that the comb will attach itself securely on your hair. You can use hairspray or bobby pins to further secure the fascinator’s hold on your hair. Bring your hair back forward so that it falls on your shoulders for a more charming look.
  4. If you want a no-fuss fascinator without losing any of the glamour, you can go for a fascinator that’s attached to a headband. Blair Waldorf will approve once you put on that fascinator that will push out the hair from your face while letting your locks fall freely all around you. For less blowsy locks, you can use leave-on conditioner or hair wax applied using your fingers.
  5. A clip-on fascinator is great for those simple up-do’s for a more sophisticated look. After pinning your up-do, simply clip on your fascinator on one side of your up-do’s swell. Further secure your hairstyle using bobby pins and hairspray.
