How to Wash Clothes
Posted on January 1st, 2009 by monsterguideWashing your clothes regularly is more a matter of personal hygiene than outward appearance. Relying on somebody else to take care of your personal hygiene is okay; however, at times laundering may need to be done at your home. Some variants of fabric require special laundering to be squeaky clean and look as good as new. However, washing clothes may appear to many as a very strenuous job, and most of the time, people make excuses to avoid having to perform this daunting task. But washing clothes can be fulfilling and satisfying if you only know how to do it properly. Follow these easy steps, and you can master the art of laundering and do it yourself in no time at all.
Required Materials
- Water
- Detergent for washing clothes or soap
- Stain stick
Required Tools
- A washbasin or a sink to hold clothes for washing; a sizeable bucket will also work
Instructions
- Checking washing conditions: Check the label for washing particulars of the material or fabric of the clothes you are planning to wash.
- Checking clothes for stains: Look over the clothes you intend to wash for stains. If the washing instructions of the concerned clothes require pretreating of stains, do it with a stain stick or use some other method to dilute the stain. You may also use normal laundry detergent, make a paste with water, and scrub it gently with your hands.
- Preparing for wash: Fill a washbasin, sink, or bucket, according to the amount of clothes you want to wash, and add a considerable amount of detergent to the water. Mix well to lather.
- Washing the clothes: Put the clothes you intend to wash into the soapy water, and move them around with your hands. Make sure that the clothes are well dipped in the soap solution.
- Soaking the clothes: Soak the clothes in the soapy solution for about 10 or 15 minutes before taking them out. Check each garment for stains, and gently rub at the stains if there are still any left.
- Rinsing the clothes: Take the clothes out of the soapy solution, and rinse them well with clean water.
- Drying the clothes: Take the washed clothes out of the water, and let them dry on a hanger or lay them out flat to dry.
Tips and Warnings
- Using lukewarm water helps remove stains fast and easy. However, always follow the washing instructions given with every piece of garment.
- The use of bleach and other powerful stain removers can help you effectively remove stains. However, bleach is not recommended for all fabrics. Read the washing instructions to ensure the best wash.

Um….well, germs and bacteria from the skin gets onto clothes…um…as well as dead skin cells and oil. Dirt and dust and other stuff flying around in the air, and more germs and bacteria. contact with other people. the same reason people bathe, i guess. sweat gets onto clothes. stains from other sources gets onto clothes. and then constant wear without washing creates a very unpleasant smell. but that too, is bacteria. and smells from other sources. some of the same sources that cause stains. food, drinks, children throwing up on you, stuff like that. all i can think of from the top of my head. and pets. animals. they leave hair around and they slobber and sometimes they smell. a doggie smell lol. but i guess, generally the same reason people bathe and wash their hair. clean up their homes, dusting, stuff like that. if something’s out there, no doubt it’l find a way to get on your clohthes. well, my babbling and mindless ramblings done, lol. tata
