Microsoft offers many tools and utilities that are meant to work with each other seamlessly and optimally.  Microsoft Office 2007 is a very convenient office suite installed on your computer, and Windows Live Hotmail is a powerful Web application designed for creating and retrieving e-mail.  The good thing is you can integrate Outlook 2007 and your Hotmail accounts into one easy system process.  Here’s how to do it:

Tools

  • Internet connection with Windows XP or Vista
  • Microsoft Microsoft Outlook 2007 (always comes bundled with Microsoft Office 2007)
  • One or more valid Windows Live Hotmail accounts (paid or free)

Steps

Installing and Configuring the Outlook Connector

The Outlook Connector is a small program (around 4.4 MB if you want all components installed) that links your Hotmail accounts to Microsoft Outlook:

  • Close Microsoft Outlook, and download the Microsoft Office Outlook Connector.
  • Save or open the program as soon as the download is complete.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen during the install process.
  • When you run Outlook, you’ll be prompted to a screen where you should enter your Hotmail address, the password for that address, and your name or user ID.

Your Hotmail account should now appear on the “Mail” pane of Outlook 2007.

Adding and Removing Hotmail Accounts

If you have multiple Hotmail accounts and you want to run them at the same time using Outlook 2007, follow these steps:

  • Launch the Outlook Connector program.
  • You’ll be prompted to a screen where you can enter your Hotmail address, password, and the user ID you want to use for that account.
  • Click “OK,” and launch Microsoft Outlook.

Keep repeating the process until you have uploaded and configured all your Hotmail accounts into the program.  When you launch Outlook, the accounts should appear on the “Mail” pane.

While Outlook is not meant to be a substitute for Hotmail, you can integrate your Hotmail accounts into a single program that consumes less bandwidth and less memory.  With Outlook, you can send e-mails to friends, family, and workmates using your Hotmail account.
