How to Use an Electric Razor
Posted on July 21st, 2009 by ElaineMany men today are throwing away their regular hand shavers for something more efficient, but less painful: the electric razor. Using this can be tricky at first, though, especially if you’ re not familiar with it. If you’re struggling with this, here’s a quick guide to help you out.
What You’ll Need:
- Electric razor (rotary or foil)
- Facial wash or soap
- Water
- Clean towel
- Batteries
- Pre-electric shave lotion or gel
- Scissors
- Mirror
Procedure:
- Before you buy an electric razor, determine which type suits your beard better. You can get this in two types: rotary or foil. If you have lighter hair growth, it’s best to use rotary, while foil is better for thicker facial hair, and works the same way as old-fashioned shaving. Find out which type suits you best. Also, when you buy the razor, find out what batteries it needs and read the manual. You’ll get plenty of tips on how to get a close shave.
- Wash your face before you begin shaving. Use a soap or facial wash and warm water. Dry with a clean towel afterwards, then apply some pre-shaved gel or lotion. Allow the skin to absorb it.
- If your facial hair is longer than a centimeter, trim it first before you begin shaving. You can shave it off, but trimming makes it easier for you to clean the razor better later. Use a pair of small scissors to trim your hair. Be very careful when doing this.
- Turn the electric razor on and start shaving. Remember to go against the grain (the direction where your facial hair grows). When you do this, the whisker is pulled out, so the razor cuts lower, causing a closer shave. Shave slowly, especially when you’re going over your neck and chin. This makes the shaving more effective.
- Don’t shave an area over and over, because it can be painful and makes the hair appear uneven.
- If you have very short stubble, make small circular rotations with your razor. For longer stubble, create bigger circular rotations. Check your face, making sure you’ve taken care of all areas.
- Finish your shaving by applying aftershave or balm all over your cheeks, chin and neck.
- To keep your razor in good shape, clean the foil and heads on it frequently, using the brush that came with the package. Separately brush each head and protective shield. This will make shaving more efficient and will preserve the blades better.
Some Tips:
- Never put an electric razor in a place where it can fall into water. This can be dangerous.
- Shave daily or as often as you see fit.
- Don’t mix up the screens and cutting blades of the razor.
- Always have extra batteries with you at home. It’ll be annoying if the razor runs out of power while you’re in the middle of shaving.
Getting a close shave with an electric razor is great. Just follow these tips and you’ll get a clean shaven face without any cuts or nicks.
