How to Upload a Video to YouTube
Posted on July 5th, 2009 by MarckYouTube is one of the most popular sites to share your videos to the world. Uploading a video through YouTube is very easy, although it is checking and counter-checking for content that can take up quite some time. Here are some ways to upload a video to YouTube.
Checking Copyright and Content
The first thing that you should do before uploading a video to YouTube is to check copyright and content. From time to time, YouTube goes through the content of posted videos for copyright infringement, or for questionable content. Here are some steps you need to take before uploading your video.
Copyright
- Check the license of contents like video and audio that you’ll be using.
- It’s best to avoid music tracks and video content that do not violate existing copyright laws. Check end-user license agreements first before uploading video to YouTube.
Content
- Check the format. YouTube accepts most video types and file extensions directly from a drive or a video recording device (like a digital video camera or a cellular phone). The file format is usually .MPG, but other file formats like .MOV, .AVI, or .WMV are accepted. If your file format is not supported, you need to convert the video to a suitable file format.
- Check the file size. YouTube supports video file sizes up to 2 GB in size. For larger or longer videos, you may need to split the video or reduce the resolution.
Uploading the Video
Once you have prepared and checked the video, you can now proceed to upload the video file to YouTube:
- Sign in to your YouTube account.
- On the upper right-hand side of the YouTube page, you’ll see a yellow “Upload” button.
- Click the “Upload” button, and you’ll be directed to a browsing utility where you can search for the video you want to upload.
- Click “Upload Video,” and wait for the upload to finish. Do not interrupt the process until it is completed. The speed of the upload depends on the speed of your connection and the size of the file.
- Key in some of the fields on the text boxes on the upload page. Don’t forget the title and description. Tags can also help viewers search for your uploaded video.
- Save all changes after the video has been uploaded.
