How to Tan Without Burning
Posted on May 26th, 2009 by PaulTanned skin looks sexy, especially when donned by the beach. Such a complexion is often ogled at, given the edgy impressions it exudes. The problem is, baking beneath the sun can dry the skin and causes sunburn to appear, ruining your tan. Good thing there are means to protect your skin from getting burned. Just apply sunscreen, a tanning lotion, or other tan-friendly solutions before sunbathing.
Use Sunscreen with Low SPF
Applying sunscreen helps you ward off the harmful UV rays from the sun. However, if you use one that offers too much protection, tanning will practically take forever. Purchase sunblock that has about 10 SPF and a tanning lotion. The solutions give you a fair duration for securing a tan while avoiding sunburn. The ideal time is about 10 - 15 minutes, but you can extend a little longer as long as your skin doesn’t hurt. Distribute sunscreen and the tanning lotion equally on your arms, legs, face, and torso, for a nice even tan.
Apply Exfoliant Days Before Sunbathing
Exfoliant is formulated to rid your skin off dead cells, which causes blotches and discolorations. Apply the substance a couple of days before heading to the beach. Make sure you have your entire body covered, as a single discolored spot looks unsightly. Apply the solution twice daily, preferably one in the morning and another before going to bed. Once you hit the beach, you will notice that getting an even tan is not too hard.
Bring a Timer when Tanning
Time is of the essence when getting a tan. For one, watching the time is necessary to avoid staying for too long beneath the sun or on the tanning bed. The duration in which each side of your torso is exposed to the sun is also important for getting an even bronze complexion. For these purposes, you should always bring a timer or a stopwatch, so you can track the time for every tanning-related endeavor.
Longer Tan? Apply Moisturizer
If the tanning lotion aids you in getting perfect bronze skin, the moisturizer preserves your complextion. It provides your skin enough moisture to keep the harmful UV rays away, without interrupting your tanning. In addition, the solution helps sunburn heal faster, since it moistens the burned skin. Apply the solution before and after tanning for optimum results.
Don’t Forget Your Shades
Aside from these four solutions, don’t forget to bring your sunglasses or a pair of goggles. These items keep your eyes from getting hurt or damaged while getting a tan. Besides, wearing shades makes you look cooler as you lay on a blanket by the beach.
