Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and your body’s primary defense against infection and diseases. Having great skin is also a very attractive physical trait, which men and women of all ages try to attain. Here’s how you can take care of your skin and even improve your skin’s current condition.

Eat Healthy

A healthy body helps make a healthy skin. The skin needs to be working at its best to help get rid of all the harmful toxins in our body. That’s why we need to eat food that will help the skin do its job better.

Eat lots of organic fresh fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that keep our skin looking you. Vitamins C, A and K help improve our skin and vitamin E can even be directly applied on our skin.

Minerals good for the skin include zinc, chromium and calcium. Zinc helps remove damaged tissue and collagen production.

Cleansing

Since the skin is the most exposed to the elements among all our organs, it’s important that we clean our skin well and regularly.

Wash your hands regularly, especially after coming back in from the outdoors, after using the toilet and before you eat.

Use a soap that’s gentle on your skin and wash yourself with warm water. Towel yourself dry thoroughly after bathing.

For your facial skin, look for a facial cleanser that suits your skin type. There are a variety of brands and products where you can readily choose from. Don’t cleanse your face too often, as it may cause your skin to dry out. Do it every night before you go to sleep.

Moisturize

Dry skin will cause flaking, which in turn can cause injury and even infection. Keeping a moisturized skin helps make the skin stronger.

When to moisturize? Moisturizing in the morning after bathing and before you go to work (and get exposed to the elements) is the best. Doing it before going to bed is also advisable. Use a brand that goes well with your skin, and use a separate moisturizer for your face.

Moisturizers are especially important during the summer and the winter, when your skin will be dealing with harsher temperatures.

Exfoliate

Exfoliate your face and body using a face and body exfoliant at least once a week. Choose exfoliants with finer beads if you have fine skin, and bigger ones if you have bigger pores. Exfoliants help get rid of the old skin that collects on top of your newer skin.

Face masks also help rejuvenate and exfoliate your skin. Again, use it at most once a week.

Use Sunscreen

Sunscreen is the best way to avoid getting sunburnt, the most common kind of skin injury and damage. Avoid going out in the sun between ten AM and four PM. Here’s how to prevent sunburns and how to relieve sunburn.

Skin Problems

There are a variety of skin problems out there, each with their own treatments and medication. One thing that you shouldn’t do is scratch anything that shows up on your skin. If you’re unsure with how to treat a type of skin problem, don’t be afraid to see a dermatologist.
