How to Spike Your Hair
Posted on September 17th, 2009 by CarmeliaSpiked hair is a really cool hairstyle to use for guys and suits all kinds of face shapes and types. It’s also a hairstyle that’s not likely to go out of style anytime soon. Here’s how to spike your hair.
Tools
The tools you need in making the perfect spiked hair depend on your hair type. If you have thin hair, you may need less product for your hair to keep your hair from defying gravity. If you have thicker locks, you may need a little more help.
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Towel brush
- Hairspray
- Hair wax
- Hair gel
- Hair blower
Procedure
- Wash your hair using the shampoo best suited for your hair type. Rinse out the shampoo after.
- Apply conditioner that’s suited for your hair type and rinse it out after. Conditioner helps your hair be more manageable.
- Dry your hair thoroughly by letting it air dry, using your towel or using a hair blower. However, take note that some people like to apply their hair product of choice on wet hair, as it will help the hair stick in shape better. This is acceptable, but remember that you must use a water-resistant hair product if you want to keep your hair dry.
- Brush your hair in the direction it grows, to get rid of the small unsightly tangles.
- If you have thin hair, apply a bit of hair wax or hair gel all over your hair. Use either one sparingly. The only difference between using hair wax or hair gel is that hair wax will make your hair look dry, while hair gel will give you the s0-called “wet look”. You can turn your head upside-down while applying hair product, so that gravity will help you spike up your hair.
- If you have hair with normal thickness, you can use the same products as you do with thin hair. Just add more product if it’s not enough.
- If you have thick hair, you may want to use hair resin to keep the spikes in place, or get a shorter haircut to make your locks more manageable.
- To apply the hair gel, rub the hair product all over your fingers. Massage the product from the base of your hair to the tips of your finger, coaxing the spike shapes by trapping locks of your hair, pushing upwards. Keep on doing this until the spikes can stand up on their own. Blow dry your hair after.
Spiking your hair is pretty easy to do, and you’ll get the hang of it in no time. Good luck.
