Streaming video is very popular among many Internet users, but speed can be a problem for slower or loaded connections.  There is no escaping buffering, and many people are willing to put up with video load times as long as it’s not long or inconvenient.  Here are some ways to speed up video buffering.

Free Up System Resources

Slow loading and buffering times are associated with slow Internet connections, but you can also suffer from slow buffering times if you have too many processes opened at the same time.  System processes and open programs that access the Internet can affect the speed by which the video is streamed and transmitted into the computer.  You can reduce the bandwidth load and free up network and system resources with these tips:

  • Cancel or pause all downloads.
  • Shut off browser tabs and browser windows that are rich in content.
  • Close programs and other utilities that may access the Internet.  You may need to temporarily shut off Windows Defender or your anti-virus utilities until such time that the video is buffered.  You should, however, be absolutely sure that videos or other files are safe to use when your security settings are disabled.

Disable Hardware Acceleration

Hardware acceleration assumes that all videos and multimedia would play at the same rate, size, and quality.  While this can be convenient for computer programs like computer games and graphics-intensive photo editing utilities, it can slow down buffering for streaming video.  To disable hardware acceleration, follow these steps:

  • Right-click on the Desktop and click “Properties.”
  • Click on the “Settings” tab on the dialog box.
  • Click “Advanced,” and click “Troubleshoot.”
  • Reduce the degree of hardware acceleration by moving the slider bar to lower settings, or to completely disable hardware acceleration.

Videos are just one of the many interesting resources that you can acquire from the Internet.  With these tips, you can speed up video buffering and get a lot of multimedia content for research and entertainment.
