Selling comic books can be a goldmine for the person who’s willing to spend some time to get a good price for them. It seems like most of us have at least a few old comics lying around, but unless you’re careful, selling them can be a real hassle. This guide will help you to get the best prices for your old books, without spending too much time doing it.

Where To Sell Your Comics

The most important thing to consider when selling comics is who your buyer will be. Local comic shops or used bookstores might seem like a good place to unload them, but they generally will not have very good prices. To get the best deals, you’ll have to go online. Auction sites like eBay are an excellent way to connect with interested buyers, and services like Craigslist can be even better, since you won’t have to deal with shipping costs is selling locally.

Pricing Your Comics

With stories about comics selling or hundreds of thousands of dollars being common, it’s easy to be afraid that you aren’t getting a good enough deal when selling your books. The sad truth is that the vast majority of comics, especially those from the past few years, are worth little more than their cover prices, perhaps less. Your local library may have a price guide, or you can find one online for free. Beware that the prices in these price guides can often be higher than what you’ll actually get. Remember, the true worth of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it. You can also look at closed auctions on eBay or similar sites to get an idea of what your comics have gone for in the past.

Grading

Comics buyers use a system of grades to determine what condition a comic is in. The best grade is Mint, while the worst is Poor. If your comics have bent or torn covers, stained pages, or a damaged spine, it will be closer to poor than mint. Comics grading can be subjective, but doing your best to determine a grade will make your sale appear more legitimate.

It might seem like a big pain at first, but buying and selling comic books can be fun, as well as a great way to raise some extra cash!
