Every now and then, we are given the responsibility of selling a certain number of concert tickets in support of an organization, a group or a charitable project. Selling tickets can be very difficult, but there are some things you can do to ensure that they all get sold. Here’s how:

Friends and Family

Ever heard of the six degrees of separation? The theory goes that everyone knows everyone else and is separated from each other by six degrees of separation. While it’s natural to sell things like concert tickets to our friends and family (who hopefully will be willing to help you out), take it a step further. You can sell your mother one ticket, but your mother has X number of co-workers, acquaintances and relatives, all who can be potential ticket buyers.

Don’t be shy asking your family and friends to help you out with selling tickets by asking them to ask people around who may be interested in buying them. Remember, the more people helping you sell means the higher the probability of getting them sold.

Social Networking Sites

Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace offer opportunities to reach out to your network of friends without leaving your desk. You can send a message to your friends informing them of the concert, and ask them to message you back if they are interested in purchasing tickets. Be sure to get back to them as soon as they express any interest in buying your tickets!

You can also leave a status message on your profile informing your network of the concert and how they can buy tickets from you. Do not leave your phone number or address online for everyone to see, and instead ask them to message you instead if they are interested in the tickets.

You will have to consider where your friends are located before considering them as serious buyers. Friends who live outside of the state have smaller chance of buying of really buying the tickets in comparison to friends who live in the neighborhood.

Online Ticket Brokers

There are a few great websites that are designed for selling tickets. You post the tickets that you have, and anyone can find them using the sites’ searching and browsing features. For a small fee, these online ticket websites will connect you with a buyer. Some of these brokers even cover the shipping, and guarantee your payment. Check out a few and compare their rates and listing systems.

Ebay

Ebay is a great way to sell something quickly while reaching a wide audience at the same time. However, keep in mind that internet selling can be pretty tricky. Here’s how you can sell your tickets on Ebay:

  1. Set up a PayPal account. PayPal is the fastest and easiest way to exchange money in online transactions. This is especially important for concert tickets.
  2. Register on Ebay. The website will guide you through the process of registering and validating your account.
  3. Set up the sale. Click on the Sales Link page of Ebay, and follow the process of setting up a sale page. Make sure that you detail the terms of the sale carefully (acceptable form of payment, where the tickets can be sold within the country), the ID numbers of the ticket, the seating number, date and venue of the concert and even a list of the opening acts. Remember, it’s very importan that your details are correct and that you deliver the tickets as soon as you receive the payments. Being a bad seller means that you’ll be blacklisted and you won’t be able to sell under the same name as before.

Advertise

You can’t sell if people don’t know you’re selling. Distribute flyers, post posters and spread the word around about the concert! Include the list of bands playing as well as the time and venue of the concert. This may sound a little time-consuming, but it will be totally worth it once the tickets start selling.

Set up a Booth

Setting up a booth at school or right outside the venue of the concert can direct people where to buy the tickets.
