How to Record Streaming Video
Posted on April 6th, 2009 by MarckThanks to really fast Internet connections, it’s now possible for anyone to record videos and post them online. Streaming video is one of the most convenient ways to upload and watch videos through the Internet. If you’re interested in posting your own homemade videos online through video streaming technology, here are some ways to do it.
Streaming and Live Streaming
Before the days of streaming video, users first had to download the video file before watching it. The problem was that downloading a video through a host server took up too much of the available network resources. Streaming video, on the other hand, sends video files on demand, which means that you can watch the video without having to wait for the download to finish.
One advantage of streaming video is that you can watch videos as they take place, much like what TV stations broadcast when they show live concerts or breaking news. Live streaming is the term used for videos broadcast to the world as the event takes place. Today, even news agencies and media outfits use live streaming feeds to broadcast exclusive content to their subscribers and preferred customers.
Steps
One way to broadcast media streams is to record the video first, before uploading it to a hosting service like YouTube. Here are the steps you need to take to broadcast pre-recorded video:
- Record the video first, and prepare the video with a video editing suite like Adobe Premiere.
- Sign up for an account on YouTube, and fill in the details asked of you.
- Once the video has been prepared, read the requirements and the terms and conditions for your stream to be uploaded.
- Upload the segments through the “Upload Video” tool found on your personal YouTube home page.
Live Streams
If you want to broadcast a live event as it takes place, follow these steps:
- Subscribe for an account to a live stream hosting site, like LiveStream or JustinTV.
- Set up your computer to broadcast a live stream. Connect your computer (preferably a laptop or a mobile device) to a high-speed Internet connection. Set up the webcam or digital camera to send the video stream to your computer.
- Upload the video stream using the hosting site’s service. Your viewers can then view the event as it takes place.
High-speed Internet allows many people to do many things with their computers that were never before thought possible. With these tips, you can record, upload, and broadcast streaming video anytime, anywhere.
