So once your are prepared mentally, you then start to cut down on the amounts you are smoking. Weening your body of the nicotine is far safer than just stopping. You can do this by cutting down the amount of cigarettes you smoke each day. You can replace cigarettes with some of the many quit smoking products on the market such as inhalers, chewing gum, patches etc. These will all give your body nicotine on a reduced level.
Cutting Down
Once you can get your body used to this reduced amount, then you just keep on reducing it. You do this until you finally make the decision to stamp them out for good. Obviously you will still get the cravings to smoke and may find yourself wanting to have something in your hand all the time. These cravings can be helped by having a pen you can chew on or by having a sweet that you can chew on whenever you get the urge.

I quit cold turkey Because I feared relapse if I tried to just cut back again. I seemed to always find a reason to go back to smoking just as many cigarettes as ever if not more. Once I got in the mindset that I was done and not going to fail again Quitting was possible. I am 18 days strong.

I agree with the getting in the right mindset. I myself did not do a cutting back method. This is because I fear relapse into smoking just as much as I did if I dont go cold turkey. Its why I never recomend anyone trying to cut back. Quit cold turkey if you can but yes be in the right mindset because once you are its 75% of the battle.
