How to Pose for a Photo
Posted on June 8th, 2009 by MarckLots of tips are given to photographers about how to take the perfect picture, but there aren’t too many tips given to people who have their pictures taken. Half of the picture is always the subjecy, and some people may even be discontented or disappointed with the work of a good professional photographer. If you want to be an active participant in the photography process, here are some tips to help you pose for a photo.
Look Good
Remember that a camera is not a beauty salon or a make-up kit. Cameras and photography software can only do so much to make you look good. To get the picture you want, you must look the way you want. Here are some tips to consider:
- When posing for a formal portrait (like for an identification card or a license), look straight into the camera.
- For formal occasions, wear make-up and the right clothes for the event.
- Highlight features of your face and body that you want to be emphasized in the photo.
- Don’t forget to maximize your emotions and project yourself, although don’t exaggerate because forced feelings will always be seen in a camera.
Simulate Movement
Photographers always look for a challenge, and often consider many factors in the environment to take a nice-looking picture. For portraits, you simply have to trust the photographer in the way he or she puts you into position for a shot. For outdoor shots or for scenes with a lot of movement, you have to make yourself part of the shot.
Think of your body as a series of lines and points that can work well with the environment your picture is being taken on. When posing for pictures, always consider the environment; the photographer will point out and suggest poses that you may use to look good when the picture is finally taken.
Act Natural
There’s nothing like “stolen shots,” or pictures of you doing ordinary things while not mindful of the camera. Many good photographers will take a shot of subjects without them knowing it. The key is not to pay too much attention to the camera, and let the photographer work his or her magic with the camera. You would be surprised at how nice your pictures look even without you striking a pose.
The subject of a picture is the focus of all photography. With these tips, you can strike the best pose to make yourself look good to give your photographer a project he or she can be proud of.
