How To Plan A Honeymoon
Posted on March 24th, 2009 by ElaineAfter the “I do’s” have been said, the champagne bottles emptied, and the wedding dress packed away, it’s now time for you and your spouse to go on the next big adventure: your honeymoon! It’s your opportunity to be alone and enjoy each other’s company, so you have to make sure you plan it well. Here are some tips to remember.
What You’ll Need:
- Budget
- Travel agency
- Passports and other documents
- Travel book
Talk It Over
Chances are you and your spouse have very different ideas when it comes to your honeymoon. He might want to go snorkeling and scuba diving, while you want to relax in spas. Sit down together and discuss the honeymoon you had in mind. Make lists of what you want, including amenities, possible destinations, budget, and how long the honeymoon will take. Talk and compromise on a honeymoon that suits both your personalities.
Schedule The Honeymoon
Part of your discussion with your spouse includes scheduling your trip. Most couples leave for their honeymoon immediately after their wedding, while some leave it off until a few weeks or even months after. Determine the honeymoon date. Make sure it doesn’t mess with other important appointments.
If you’re not with a travel agent, book your flight at least five to six months before the trip. This gives you a cheaper rate. Record the confirmation numbers and keep the tickets well. Confirm the flight three months, two days and on the day of the departure, and see if there have been changes.
Research
Okay, so you choose Rome as your honeymoon destination. Do you know how to get around or how to speak their local language? Are you familiar with the tourist spots, the hotels and where to get fine dining? If you’re going to the place for the first time, it’s a good idea to do your research first. Read several travel books about that place, or check online sites. You’ll be surprised at the many information you’ll get.
Consult A Travel Agency
To make things a bit easier for you, turn to a travel agency for help with your honeymoon. Travel agents know about the best deals for land, air and car packages, airfare, hotel accommodations, and tours. You’ll have to pay additional costs for their services though, but at least you don’t get a lot of hassle. Ask for travel agency recommendations from friends who’ve gone on honeymoons.
Prepare Your Documents
You’ll need official travel documents, especially if you’re leaving the country. Prepare and update your passports, as well as health certificates and vaccines. This might take time, so make sure to start early. Also, leave copies of these documents with a trusted family member or friend, so if you lose them during the trip, you can ask them to fax it over.
Money is also very important. Make sure you carry your credit cards with you at all times. You’ll also need to have the local currency of your destination, so exchange your money even before you leave for the airport.
Pack Wisely
You must bring one of everything: jeans, sweatshirt, jacket, a formal dress, swimsuit (unless you’re certain that you’re not going to go swimming), and a few t-shirts or blouses. Pack your stuff in a luggage bag and check it in, but make sure to put your valuables and documents in a carry-on bag. It’s also a good idea to put in a change of clothes in your spouse’s bag, and vice versa. If one of your bags get lost, at least you’ll have a change of clothing.
As long as you follow these tips, your honeymoon will be enjoyable, hassle-free and filled with love. One last tip: enjoy the trip!
