Eyebrows need to be tweezed or threaded every now and then, to look good and alluring, but there are times when cosmetics need to come in, to bring a more attractive look. Penciling eyebrows is something many women do, either to give their eyebrows a thicker appearance, or to shape them, adding a dramatic touch. If you want to try this, here’s what to do.

What You’ll Need:

  • Eyebrow pencil
  • Cotton
  • Brow gel or hairspray
  • Brow brush (a toothbrush can be a good alternative)
  • Mirror
  • Make-up brush
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Eyebrow pencil sharpener
  • Tweezers

Procedure:

  1. Use a mirror to examine which areas of your eyebrows needs to be filled. Make sure you get a good quality eyebrow pencil. Cheaper pencils tend to break off easily. Make sure your eyebrow pencil is sharpened before you start.
  2. Remove any traces of face powder or foundation from your eyebrows, if you have applied it before. Use a clean make-up brush to lightly dust your eyebrows. If your eyebrow area becomes too oily, wipe it first with a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol.
  3. Brush your eyebrow with the brow brush or an old toothbrush. Make strokes coming from the inside corner to the outside corner.
  4. Begin at the inner corner of your eye. Put the pencil vertical over the eyebrow, but it shouldn’t be too near the inner brow.
  5. With soft, feather-like strokes, start penciling the inner corner of your eyebrow, until you reach the arch. The strokes must be light, going upward and outward. Draw fine lines in between the hairs. As you move to the underside of the brow, you can add more pressure.
  6. Brush your eyebrows again. Not only will this groom the brow, but it will also soften the color, providing a more natural look.
  7. If you see stubborn hairs outside the defined brow, remove them using tweezers. (Tips on how to pluck your eyebrows)
  8. Hold your newly penciled brows in place using a brow gel. If it’s not available, you can put some hairspray on an old toothbrush, then run it over your brow.

Some Tips:

  • Use an eyebrow pencil that matches your brow’s natural color, or just a shade closer.
  • The tip of the eyebrow pencil must be always dry when you use it.
  • You don’t have to sharpen your pencil every time you’re using it. Just pinch the tip for a few seconds using your index finger and thumb to press the lead and give you a tipped end, perfect for penciling.
  • Avoid rushing. Many women pencil their eyebrow using only a single stroke, making them end up with a single overpowering black line.

Give your face elegance and balance by penciling your eyebrows. As long as you stick to these steps, you’ll end up with a classy-looking finish. For more information regarding this article, read how to get rid of thick eyebrows.
