How to Model Walk

When you look at their slim bodies, their beautiful faces, and the outfits they show off, it’s easy to become envious of models. You may not look like them, but there’s a way to be like them: learn how to model walk. If you know how to move as if you’re on the catwalk, then feeling like a model will come naturally.

What You’ll Need:

  • Comfy shoes
  • Good outfit
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • Catwalk
  • Confidence

Be Comfortable

model walkFeeling glamorous is great, but before this, you must feel comfortable, both inside and out. Find a catwalk you can practice on and imagine there are people watching you. You can also practice in front of your friends. When you become used to walking in front of many people, you can model walk comfortably.

Choose the right attire, from the shoes to your outfit. Models usually walk in heels, but if you’re afraid to use stilettos on your first try, you can just start with a two-inch heel. As you get used to these, you can work your way up, and wear higher heels. One tip: if the shoes are new, cover their soles with masking tape, so they won’t slip. You can also use scissors to scratch the soles.

After choosing the right shoes, you must pick an outfit you’re comfortable with. Models aren’t afraid to flaunt or show any of their body parts, but if you feel insecure about wearing something too revealing, don’t. Choose an outfit that’s fashionable, but one that makes you feel good.

Watch Your Posture

Have you ever seen a model slouch or bow her head? Models are very particular about their posture, so make sure you are, too. Practice good posture. Throw back your shoulders and keep your neck elongated. Keep your buttocks tight, your stomach in, and your chest out. Put your pelvic bone slightly forward, then hold up your head high. Doing the old “books on the head” practice is a good idea. As you walk, allow your hips to lead.

Walk Properly

After you’ve learned the proper posture for models, it’s time to do the walk. Here’s how.

  1. Begin the walk by putting a foot forward, directly in front of the back foot. It’s as if you’re walking on a tightrope. Let your toes point straight ahead. If you learn to do this at a normal walking pace, you’ll see the swing models do on a catwalk.
  2. Instead of balancing on your heels, balance yourself on the balls of your feet. The balls of your foot must be the first one to come down when you’re walking.
  3. Lengthen your normal stride. You can do this by lifting your knees a bit higher, then putting them out a bit more than you normally do.
  4. Allow your arms to swing naturally. Fingers curling is common if you’re relaxed, but this makes you look as if you don’t have fingers. Just let them hang down naturally or curl them very slightly.
  5. Your head should stay still as you walk. Focus straight ahead, and keep your eyes forward, your chin high. Models never look down.
  6. As you reach the end of the catwalk, put a hand on your hip, then let your hips do a slight dip. Turn, your head being the last body part that moves, then and walk back. With the same steady pace you used.

Confidence Is Key

Above all these techniques, remember to keep your confidence level high. When you’re nervous or unsure of yourself, it will show in your walk, and people won’t be impressed. Feel good about yourself. If you slip or fall, stand up proudly and try again. When you’re confident, you’ll be more glamorous.

Knowing how to model walk is the first step to becoming like these beautiful people. Follow these tips, and who knows? Maybe you’ll become the next Kate Moss or Naomi Campbell to strut on the catwalk!
