How to Make Lemonade
Posted on July 7th, 2009 by MarckWhen life gives you lemons, you make lemonade; and many people often get real lemons for them to make real lemonade. Instant ready-to-mix or ready-to-drink lemonade is refreshing for a drink on the fly, but if you enjoy real lemonade, you probably wouldn’t like store-bought lemonade as much as the real thing. Here are the ingredients and steps you need to make your own refreshing lemonade.
Ingredients
Lemonade is only as good as what you put in it. Here are the ingredients you need to make a nice, refreshing, healthy pitcher of lemonade:
- Lemons. Powder is a no-no when it comes to lemonade. If you take a look at the ingredients in powdered lemonade, you probably have no idea about those complicated chemicals mixed with it. Remember that if you cannot pronounce or understand an ingredient, you’re better off not consuming it.
- Sugar. White sugar is often used for lemonade, but you can also try using brown sugar for a deeper, darker color. You can also use honey or other sweeteners.
- Flavoring and coloring. You can experiment with many herbs and other flavorings to add to your lemonade. Mint is a popular choice especially for summer months, but you can also add ingredients like licorice or lime leaves to your lemonade. You can also use a small amount of food coloring to give your lemonade a lovely, lively color.
All you need now is water and ice to start making your own lemonade.
Steps and Tips
Lemonade is one of the easiest things in the world to make. To make lemonade, you simply mix all the ingredients in a pitcher, serve it in a glass, and drink it. There are some ways, though, that you can improve on the taste and refreshing qualities of lemonade:
- Keep it tart. Some people like their lemonade sweet, but keep in mind that you’re not making sweetened water. You should still be able to taste lemons in your lemonade no matter how sweet it is.
- Keep it fresh. Fresh ingredients make a refreshing lemonade. The lemons you use in lemonade should be as fresh as possible. To add a sense and feeling of freshness, it helps to add a few slices or wedges of fresh lemon with the lemonade.
- Keep it fair. The ingredients used to make lemonade are cheap, so you should put a fair and reasonable price on lemonade if you’re going to sell it.
Lemonade is a refreshing drink for any time of the season. With the right ingredients, you can make a batch of lemonade that’s so good, people will keep coming back for more.
