How to Make Eyes Look Bigger With Makeup
Posted on March 5th, 2009 by CarmeliaMakeup is an incredibly useful way to subtly alter your looks by highlighting good features and conceal unflattering ones. Makeup can also make eyes look bigger and more dramatic. Here’s how:
Tools
- Facial primer or concealer
- Dark eyeliner
- Eyelash curler
- Dark mascara
- White eyeliner (optional)
- Eyebrow plucker (optional)
- Eyebrow comb (optional)
- White eyeshadow (optional)
Procedure
- Make sure you start with a clean face. Apply facial primer or concealer over and under your eyes.
- Choose an eyeliner. Make sure that you get one that is slightly sharpened, soft and easy to apply. Black is usually the color of choice, but this color tends to be heavy and very dramatic. For a more natural look, go for browns or jewel tones.
- Before putting on eyeliner, put the pad of your index finger on the area right next to the outer corner of your eye. Slightly pull the skin so that your eye becomes stretched and slanted. This is the key to create a straight line when applying eyeliner.
- Carefully draw a line on the on the underside of your upper lashes. Make dots between eyelashes and connect the dots to make one line. Blend it in such a way that it blends with the line where your eyelashes grow. It’s not supposed to look like a simple line drawn above your eyelashes. Don’t make the line too thick, and make it as subtle as possible.
- Use your eyeliner to draw a thin line traced inside your lower lashes. Some makeup artists don’t recommend drawing on the inside of your lower lid, while others recommend doing exactly that and connecting it with the eyeliner you applied on your upper lid. It really depends on what looks best on you, so don’t be afraid to try both. Applying eyeliner all the way around will really open your eyes and makes for a more dramatic effect.
- You can use white eyeliner instead of a dark eyeliner when lining on the lower lash line.
- Make the eyeliner thicker towards the edges of your eyes. Or you can also apply white eyeliner instead.
- Take a darker shade of eyeshadow and apply a thin line just above the crease of your eyes.
- Use an eyelash curler.
- To apply mascara and avoid misapplication, tilt your head slightly backwards. Keep your hand steady, and give your head a slight shake upwards to apply the mascara.
- Apply a lengthening type of mascara, which, as the name implies, helps your lashes look longer. Gently apply only on the top eyelashes from the roots to the tip.
- Apply a second layer of thickening mascara, this time on all your eyelashes. Gently apply from the roots to the tip. Apply more layers as desired.
- Having shaped brows will also help your eyes look bigger. Apply a bit of white eyeshadow just below the curve of your brow, on the browbone to highlight your eyes.
