During Easter, kids are pampered with treats, including baskets of delicious sweets, candies and chocolates. These are yummy, but they can lead to problems like toothaches, tummy ache and even diabetes (Learn how to celebrate easter). This Easter, why not go healthy and prepare an enticing candy-free Easter Basket for your kids? Here’s how.

What You’ll Need:

Procedure:

  1. Shop for your Easter basket. You can begin by looking for a suitable basket. Find a moderately-sized one, big enough to hold all the goodies you’re planning to put in. You can even pick out another container, and not just a basket. For example, use a large truck that you can fill with car-themed goodies or a small wheelbarrow, if your child likes gardening.

  3. Know what your kids are into. Do they like toys, such as cars, robots, dolls and Barbies? Are they into reading, and like storybooks? Maybe they love cartoons. If they’re a bit older, maybe they prefer watching films. Keep these preferences in mind when you shop for other items.
  4. As you shop for the other items, bring your container. Having it with you allows you to make sure that everything looks great and fits well.
  5. Get a variety of small toys and novelty items, like mini-cars, bubble blowers, toy airplanes, fake jewelry, figurines, small stuffed toys. Stickers, crayons, and puzzle books are also great. They don’t have to cost much, just as long as they’re enjoyable enough for your kid.
  6. It’s also a good idea to pick out a theme for your child’s basket. Some themes you can try include:
    • Artsy and Crafty Basket - Fill the basket with brushes, finger paints, crayons, sketch pad, coloring books, craft kit and model kit.
    • Girly Basket - Nail polish, makeup, jewelry and trinkets, dolls, bath supplies, glitter stickers, and temporary tattoos are great. Throw in a fashionable feather boa as a bonus.
    • Sports Basket - Fill the container with football, basketball or soccer, water bottles, sport drinks, jerseys, sweat bands, and power bars. Instead of a basket, you can use a sports duffel bag.
  7. Start constructing your Easter basket. Line the bottom of the container with Easter grass, then put the cuddly Easter bunny at the center. Arrange the large items around the bunny, then fill in the empty spaces with the remaining smaller items.
  8. Wrap a bow around the whole gift as a finishing touch.

Easter baskets don’t have to contain a lot of cavities. Try this candy-free basket idea, and chances are your kid will find it just as sweet, as if it’s filled with chocolate! You might also be interested in our guide for dying Easter eggs naturally!
