Your computer, advanced as it is, is practically useless if you can’t get past the Windows XP login screen. No upgrade or cool program can help, unless you remember your username and password. So if you forget your login credentials, is your computer done for? Don’t worry, all is not lost. There are ways for you to assign a new password, so you can access your computer through your user account.

You have a couple of options for resetting the password. You can either use a password reset disk or log on using the administrator account. If you can’t find the administator account on the login page, you can also access it through the boot options menu. All the procedures are easy, so you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Use a Password Reset Disc

The password reset disc is a program specifically made for resetting forgotten passwords, including the login page of Windows XP. Just purchase one from any computer software store or try downloading one at an internet cafe and save it on a USB drive. Using the program is easy, since it automatically loads a password reset wizard on your computer. Just follow the steps and you’ll soon have access to your computer.

Procedure:

  1. Open your computer.
  2. Click your account then press Enter. A message will appear asking if you forgot your password.
  3. Click on Use Your Password Reset Disc, which loads the Password Reset Wizard.
  4. Load up your Password Reset Disc in your computer.
  5. Set the new password for your account then confirm it.
  6. Once done, type a hint for your password in the Password Hint column.
  7. Click Finish.

The Password Reset Disc clearly favors people who often forget their login credentials. Just run the disk again if ever you forget your password and password hint in the future.

Reset the Password Through the Administrator Account

The administrator account governs all the other accounts in your computer. By accessing it, you can modify the privileges of the other accounts, including their login credentials. If you know the username and password for the administrator account, reseting the password for your account should be a cinch.

Procedure:

  1. Open Your computer.
  2. Type the username and password of the administrator account on the login screen.
  3. Click Start then Run, which pulls up a small window.
  4. Type controluserpasswords2.
  5. Click OK.
  6. On the new window, click the Users tab.
  7. Look for your account then hit on Reset Password.
  8. Type the new password then confirm it.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Logout of the administrator account and check if you can access the desktop using your account.

Ideally, the administrator account should have login credentials that are easy to remember. Write the admin username and password on your organizer, so you’ll have no trouble reseting the passwords for the other accounts, whenever necessary.

The Backdoor

If you also forgot the login credentials of the administrator account, you can access it through the boot options menu. Open your computer then access the menu while the computer is booting. Once you’re inside, run the computer in Safe Mode. You can then follow the procedure on how to rest the password through the administrator account.
