How to Install Gutters

Gutters do not simply accessorize your roofing system. They are used primarily to direct rainwater. This is to keep it from accumulating in your basement.
Musty and moldy odors can be easily eliminated with these gutters. Foundations are also kept sturdy. Long seamless gutters or those highly decorative kinds are bets installed by professionals. The sectional types of gutters can be manually installed by a handy homeowner.
It is essential to plan how your gutters would channel rainwater. Water should be drained immediately. This is done by channeling it to an area away from your house. This process can be done by installing functional gutters.
The first step is to determine the perimeter of your roofing. This is achieved by measuring along the edges. Gutters are usually available in 10-foot sections.
This section will help you establish the numbers of sections of gutters are needed. An additional 10 percent should be included to your measurements for wastage.
It should be noted that other accessories are likewise needed in installing gutters. These are elbows, corners, end pieces, and drop outlets. The number of these components needs to be calculated.
The calculation is done by combining the measurement of the roof and the gutter layout plan. A mounting bracket is placed for every 24- 30 inches of run.
Begin the installation at the end of your roof from the location of the downspout. Mark down 1/2 inch from the roof edge. Go to the downspout end. Measure another 1/2 inch from the edge.
You need to mark your measurements. Check if the marks are level with each other by making use a string level. Make any adjustment if necessary.
You need to then measure the slope towards the downspout. Make sure the gutter slope down 1/16 inch for every foot of run. Mark the downspout end.
Establish a chalk line from the lower mark to the mark found at the far end. The lower mark is found at the end of the downspout. This is your reference line for installing your gutters.
You can then install the accessories of your gutter system. It is more convenient to use a power drill. It is a drill with a screwdriver bit.
Make sure also that the screws are rust resistant. Individual sections can be installed into the mounting brackets. Use gutter connectors to join these sections.
Caulk between the gutter sections. Use a bead of silicon. This is used to avoid leakage through the seams.
Place an elbow at the bottom of the drop outlet. You can then install the downspout to the base of the drop outlet. The last step would be to use mounting brackets. This will tightly affix the downspout to the side.
