Facial veins, sometimes known as spider veins, are small blue or red branches that appear on your face, most commonly in the nose area. They’re caused by broken capillaries that stem from dilated blood vessels. Preventing these from coming out can be quite tricky, as genetics also plays a role in you developing facial veins. On the other hand, prolonged sun exposure, sensitive skin, food allergies, harsh facial cleansers and previous acne also play a role in developing facial veins.

Having facial veins can make one very self-conscious, but there are some things you can do to hide them. Here’s how.

  • Follow proper skin hygiene. Cleansing, moisturizing and toning your skin helps a lot in helping fade facial veins by healing and relaxing dilated blood vessels in your face.
  • Weight loss
  • Decreased salt intake
  • Regular application of sunblock
  • Sclerotherapy. This procedure involves injecting your veins with a saline solution, which could help make your facial veins disappear in three to six weeks. However, keep in mind that its effects may not be permanent, and may have to be repeated if recommended by your doctor.
  • Intense Pulsed Light Treatment. An alternative to sclerotherapy, this procedure is not always suitable to different skin types. This procedure will release intense pulses of light on areas of your skin with facial veins, which will in turn destroy them. This procedure can be quite expensive, and it may take many treatments to make the facial veins go away.
  • Laser Treatments. This procedure involves laser technology that makes use of heat energy to damage or destroy a vein. Laser treatment is the least painful procedure among the three facial vein procedures you can undergo. The results can also come in slowly.
  • Concealer. The easiest and fastest way to conceal your facial veins is to use some good makeup. Invest on long lasting concealer that’s suited to your skin type. Veins are generally elevated from your skin, so makeup is usually the quickest way to conceal them.
