How to Grow a Goatee
Posted on October 15th, 2009 by CarmeliaA goatee is a particular way of growing facial hair. It’s defined by trimming the facial hair to grow only right under the chin, and nowhere else. It’s one of the facial hair styles that many men want to try out, and it’s said to help define one’s chin if you have a weak chin. Here’s how you can grow a goatee.
Tools
- Shaving cream
- Razor
- Manual razor
- Mirror
Procedure
- Grow out the entire area of your facial hair first, until you accumulate something of a light beard all over your jaw. If you don’t want a beard, just avoid shaving the area extending half an inch all around your mouth. This may take a while, but it’s a pretty important step if you’re getting a goatee for the first time.
- Peruse the different ways of growing a goatee. You can look at celebrity goatees or even in men’s magazines. The next time you get a haircut, you can even consult your own barber on what he thinks would look the best on you. There are a lot of different ways to style a goatee, and their suitability is based on your face shape and personality.
- Start defining your goatee in front of a clear mirror and a well-lighted room. Determine the area your goatee will take up. The rule of thumb is that they shouldn’t go past the smile lines of your face.
- Start by shaving everything past the smile lines of your face. You can use an electric razor for this, and some shaving cream.
- Use clippers or a manual razor when defining your goatee. Do this carefully, and clip hairs in different directions as they don’t all grow in the same way.
- Your goatee must be symmetrical and that it has sharp corners at the jawline. It should also be neatly connected to your mustache with a clean line.
- Make sure you trim and maintain your goatee at least once a week. An unkempt goatee will make you look like a homeless man.
- Soap or shampoo your goatee regularly. Otherwise, it might irritate your face by collecting too much dirt.
