You’ve got a big date the following night, but horror of all horrors: there’s a very visible zit on your once-clear face! Pimples can go away on their own with proper care, but because this is an emergency situation, you need to find remedies that will work overnight. Don’t fret because here are a few effective methods to help you out.

What You’ll Need:

  • Warm water
  • Clean water
  • Acne soap
  • Blow dryer
  • Toothpaste
  • Topical creams
  • Home remedies

No Touching It

The first rule when getting rid of a pimple is stopping the problem from worsening. Wash your hands thoroughly and resist the urge to lay even a finger on the pimple. Even when you’re trying the other options, you should make sure your hands are clean, or use a q-tip. Another important tip: never squeeze or pop the pimple. Once it opens, it can get infect and the problem can worsen.

Wash Your Face

Using warm water, wash your face with a gentle, oil-free acne soap or cleanser. This removes excessive oil from your face and ensures the pimple problem doesn’t get worse. Dab dry with a clean towel. If your skin is really oily, wash your face twice.

Apply Extreme Temperatures

Extreme temperatures work well in drying and reducing pimples. Here are two effective options.

  • Ice - It helps reduce pimple redness and swelling. If done properly, icing also shrinks the pimple considerably, reducing it. Wrap a clean towel around an ice cube and place against the zit. Leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes every hour, before you go to bed.
  • Heat - Use a blow dryer to dry the zit gently. Place it on the lowest setting, then put over the pimple for three to five minutes at a time. Don’t put the dryer too close to the skin. If it starts to become too hot, remove the dryer.

Toothpaste Helps

The toothpaste method is another effective method that is said to dry pimples well. After washing and drying your face, dab a small amount of plain white (not the gel type) toothpaste over the pimple. Make sure the brand you use doesn’t have any other additives, such as whitening agents. Leave the pimple on overnight, then wash it when you wake up in the morning.

Apply Topical Creams

There are numerous brands of acne creams that can help reduce and treat pimples. Find one with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid in it. Apply it according to the directions given and wait for the results.

Effective Home Remedies

Many home remedies also work in clearing pimples overnight. Here are a few you can try.

  • Lavender oil - Dab a small amount over the pimple before you go to bed. It’s soothing and will make the swelling go down.
  • Fresh lemon juice - Cut a lemon, then squeeze the juice and dab onto the pimple.
  • Garlic - You can rub the garlic directly on the acne or make a garlic juice concoction.
  • Egg whites - Separate the white from the yolk, then apply to the pimple.

These tactics are proven methods that worked well for many people. If they don’t turn out great for you, don’t worry. There are ways to conceal a pimple or reduce redness, so it won’t be very noticeable.
