Clear skin may seem like a unfulfilled promise to many people who have watched too many facial soap commercials. Keep in mind that each person’s skin needs are different, and the approach to having beautiful clear skin varies. However, there are still some basics everyone should observe to attain clearer skin.

Wash Your Face

Wash your face twice a day, everyday. Wash once in the morning right after you wake up and once in the evening, before you go to sleep. Use a gentle cleanser that won’t dry your skin, as dryness can only trigger an overproduction of oil. Choosing a facial wash can be a hit or miss, but don’t be afraid to try brands until you’ve found the best one for you.

Use Face Exfoliant and Facial Mask

Use a gentle facial scrub once a week to get rid of the dead skin cell buildup on your face, which can cause pimples. Applying a facial mask also helps rejuvenate your skin. Use once a week every other week.

Use Toner

If you have oily skin, using a toner after your facial mask will help get those overactive oil glands under control. If you have dry skin, avoid using astringents as not to make your face too dry.

Use Moisturizer

Remember that your facial skin is more sensitive than the rest of your body’s skin, so you have to stick with simpler formulas. Avoid heavy creams and perfumed moisturizers for your face. Use moisturizer after washing your face and before you put makeup on.

Exercise

Working up a sweat doesn’t just do wonders for your overall health, but for your skin, too. Sweating profusely after working out, playing in a game or doing some aerobics helps clear out your pores and prevent the buildup that causes pimples. Just remember to change out of your sweaty clothes as soon as possible and wipe your sweaty face with a clean towel.

Drink Water

Drink the recommended amount of water daily, which is around 100 oz of water. Drinking the right amount of water will hydrate your skin, flush the pimple-causing toxins out, and is generally good for your whole body.

Use Clean Pillows

Change your pillowcases into fresh new ones at least once a week. Dirty pillowcases can play host to millions of bacteria, which can aggravate and cause pimple flare-ups.

Similarly, use clean towels for your face. Set aside towels that should be used only for your face.

Get a Facial Spa

Look for special facial treatments in your local salons or spas. There are also special treatments for people with mild to moderate acne problems.

Don’t Leave Makeup On

If you can, avoid using too much makeup. Makeup can cause oily buildups that cause pimples.

Use cold cream to make sure that the makeup up you had on during the day is completely removed, before washing your face with facial wash. Replace your foundation every three months.

Visit Your Dermatologist

Having an expert opinion for more specific ways to clear your skin, especially if your acne is persistent.
