How to Get a High Score in Guitar Hero
Posted on March 24th, 2009 by PaulThere is a point in everyone’s life that they want to be a rockstar. You can relive those dreams by being ripping the solos of rock classics like Hotel California and Sweet Home Alabama. Guitar hero gives you a chance to be a legendary rock icon in the comfort of your home. The road to being a rock star, however, is long and hard. Good thing you have a sound strategy at your disposal to make the journey easier.
Step 1: Be One with the Beat
Just like with a real guitar, the rhythm of every song must flow within your entire body. Your hands and fingers must be coordinated with the rhythm, as well as the notes, in order to get high scores. Timing is essential when playing guitar hero and here are a few tips to improve yours.
- Tap your foot along to the song.
- Swing your head or headbang.
- Get the song’s rhythm by tapping on your guitar during a song’s intro.
Once you get the timing correctly, hitting the notes will be easy. Hitting complex solos will also be easier, since you will know the right shifting speed of your fingers.
Step 2: Practice Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs
Hammer-ons and pull-offs are essential skills when doing speedy and complex solos. The hammer-on lets you play notes without strumming. The pull-off, on the other hand, lets you release fingers on the fretboard without strumming. Both techniques let you hit a series of notes quickly, since you only have one hand to worry about. Master both techniques in the game’s Practice Mode and you’ll soon own every song that the game has to offer.
Step 3: Memorize the Songs
The best way for you to perfect a hard song is to memorize it. By knowing the song’s sequences, you can prepare your fingers for the change in rhythm and the appearance of notes. You will know when to shift your fingers even before the notes arrive, especially for songs that have abrupt rhythmic changes. The appearance of star power notes, which multiply your score exponentially when activated, can also be prepared for, so you can hit all of them.
Step 4: Watch an Expert Play
Seeing an expert play the game is a learning experience. You can study how the expert shifts his or her fingers and the manner his or her techniques are pulled off. Just by watching you play, the seasoned player can also spot errors or weak points in your playing. Apply his or her advice to your playing style and soon you’ll be an expert gamer yourself.
Learn each step before moving to the next, so you’ll have a firm grasp of the basics. After mastering step 3, all you need is polishing before you can call yourself a true guitar hero. Happy playing!
