How to Free Disk Space

Disk space is an important factor, given the number of essential programs that should be on your computer. Media players, games, Adobe Photoshop, and other cool applications eat up much space on your computer. You need to free up disk space, especially if your computer doesn’t have high memory, to accommodate more and for them not to affect your computer’s performance.
Disk Cleanup
Disk cleanup is a utility tool used for freeing up disk space on your computer. It analyzes the files stored on the hard drive, calculating the amount of free space you’ll have after eliminating the unnecessary files. It also compresses files and manages bad memory sectors, which free up even more space on your hard drive. When freeing up space, you should check the files deemed unnecessary, some of them may be useful. Unmark those files, before proceeding with the cleanup. Don’t forget to empty the recycle bin after the cleanup, if there were programs and stored files deleted.
Unused Programs
In the duration of using your computer, there are programs that may have been forgotten or have become obsolete. You can delete some of them in favor of freeing up space on your hard drive. Delete also songs and videos that you don’t really like, since they consume lots of space. Remember, with a chunk of space available, you can install newer and better versions of those programs you haven’t been using. Just leave the ones that are useful.
Temporary Internet Files
Your computer picks up the details of the websites you visit for faster browsing. The problem is, these files can accumulate to occupy much space on your computer’s memory. You should delete the temporary internet files at least once a week. To remove them, just open your browser and check the Tools menu. If you’re using Firefox, click on Clear Private Data. For Internet Explorer users, go to Internet Options.
Purchase More Memory
If you’re using most of the programs and files on your computer, you might as well purchase more memory. Upgrade the storage capacity of your hard drive and add more memory. Purchase an external hard drive and a bundle of blank CDs or DVDs then transfer some of the files there. By doing so, the hard drive will have lots of space for storage and fast processing.

With the amount of space you can save from these four options, you can breathe new life to your computer, instead of purchasing an expensive upgrade. A hard drive that has a meager amount of free space can crash at any time. So ready these measures when your computer’s free space is down to a fourth of its overall capacity.
