How to Erase Google Search History
Posted on May 2nd, 2009 by ElaineEvery time you search for something through Google, the web browser you’re using saves the searches generally to the computer, through “Auto Complete”. Chances are you have a long list of terms in your Google search history already, so if you want to erase it, here’s two ways to do it, using two of the most popular browsers today.
What You’ll Need:
- PC with Internet connection
- Firefox or Internet Explorer
Using Firefox
- Open Firefox and go to the Google homepage.
- Find the Tools Menu on the Firefox menu bar, then click on the Options tab. Wait for the Options dialog box to show up.
- Inside the Options dialog box, find the Privacy icon. Click on it, so you’ll go to the Privacy Data dialog box.
- Uncheck all the items found in the History section, so your PC won’t be saving this data. Afterwards, click the “Clear Now” button, which will bring you the “Privacy Data” box that lets you clear all data.
- While you’re in this dialog box, uncheck all the boxes shown, so there won’t be any data saved on your PC. You can also put checkmarks next to the Search History and Saved Form boxes , so you can clear the browsing data only.
- Click “Clear Private Data”. You’re done!
Using Internet Explorer
- Open your Internet Explorer and to the Google homepage.
- Go to the Tools menu, then click on “Internet Options”.
- Find the tab labeled “Content”, and click it. You’ll go to a screen that has an “Auto Complete” button, which you’ll need to make the necessary changes.
- When you go to the content screen, you’ll see three boxes. You should focus on the last box, labeled “Personal Information” with two buttons within it. Click on “Auto Complete”.
- You now get an “Auto Complete” dialog box that has options that are checked already. Uncheck these, making sure you uncheck “Web Address”, “Username and Password on Forms” and “Forms”.
- Click on the”Clear Passwords” and “Clear Forms” button, then click “OK”. This gets rid of the browser saved data to your PC.
Sometimes, too much terms in a Google Search History can be annoying. Try these easy steps and you’ll get rid of this dilemma.
