How to Enter the Guinness Book of Records
Posted on August 9th, 2009 by RJDo you have the largest collection of basketball cards? Do you think you can eat a watermelon faster than anyone else in the world? Can you stay awake the longest time? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you may want to enter the Guinness Book of Records.
Everyone has a chance to set a new record, whether you’re an individual or part of an organization. Set a new record or break an existing one — everything is up to you. If becoming a Guinness Book World Record holder is your dream, then follow these simple steps to get you started on your goals:
Contact Guinness World Records first.
Before attempting to break anyone’s record or set your own, contact the necessary people first. You can do this easily by visiting the website. Click on “Break a record” and follow the instructions as specified on the site. Your record will have to be verified for it to enter the record books. You can also do a quick search first of existing records before doing any of your stunts.
Follow the guidelines.
You cannot just do your thing when attempting to break a record. Guinness World Records will write guidelines for you to follow when you are attempting the record. If you are setting a new record, Guinness will send you a new set of guidelines. If you are attempting to break a record, then Guinness will send guidelines that the current record holder followed.
Get some evidence.
Guinness will require you to gather evidence of your record attempt. Take pictures, film the attempt, and have atleast two independent written witness statements. Make sure that you are following all guidelines so that you’ll not waste time and effort.
Send your evidence and wait for confirmation.
Send your evidence accordingly then wait for their confirmation. Verification may take up to three months or more so be patient. If you make it, you will get your official Guinness World Records certificate in your mail.
Be careful.
Some records can be dangerous so before attempting anything, you should heed the advice of others first before injuring yourself or another person. For instance, don’t break the law in pursuit of a world record or commit any form of cruelty to another person or animal.
