How to Do a Home Facial
Posted on August 24th, 2009 by CarmeliaFacials can cost a lot of money when done in spas and parlors. They also can cost a lot coming in a bottle, and you’re stuck between going for organic (which costs more) or generic (which has a lot of chemicals). The solution? Make your own facial treatment and enjoy a facial treatment right in the comfort of your own home. Here’s how.
Tools
- Gentle face cleanser
- Hand wash
- Homemade facial mask
- Exfoliant
- Warm water
- Clean towel
- Moisturizer
Procedure
- Make your own facial mask for an all-natural home facial. (Learn how to make a cucumber facial mask)
- Start the home facial by cleaning your own hands first using hand wash and mild water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Cleanse your skin of oil and dirt. You can use a gentle face cleanser, astringent or anything that you normally use to clean your facial skin.
- Use a mild exfoliant to scrub away the dead skin cells from your face. You can make a homemade one by making a paste made from water, baking soda and lemon juice. Avoid putting the exfoliant in your eyes, as they will sting. Scrub the surface of the skin very gently in soft circular movements. (Tips on How to Exfoliate.)
- Rinse off the exfoliant.
- Fill a clean bowl with warm water and dip a clean face towel in. Squeeze the excess water out, and gently pat the warm towel all over your face. Repeat this two or three times.
- Start applying the facial mask all over your face, avoiding the eye, nose and mouth areas. Oily skin types should use clay masks. Dry skin types should use hydrating masks. Leave the mask on for ten to 20 minutes, or the time accorded by the product. Rinse the face mask off thoroughly.
- Pat your face dry with a clean, dry towel. Pat, do not rub. Rubbing your face may irritate the skin and even cause premature wrinkles.
- Put moisturizer on your face to help retain some moisture after your washing.
