Going on a cruise on your vacation can be an unforgettable experience but you don’t want to blow up your entire life savings on just one memorable trip atop a giant floating paradise. There are many ways to cruise cheaply. Here are some tips on how to travel on a budget:

Do your homework.

Go online and look for websites that offer package vacations featuring relaxing cruises. This will not only save you time but also money since you wont need to go to your local travel agency. Book in advance and determine the dates on which you will go cruising since most websites give discounts for early reservations. Compare prices and search for related forums where you can find valuable advice and warnings from people who have been on similar vacations before.

Go for off-season travel.

Expect to pay more if you want to travel on holidays such as during New Year’s, Spring Break or Thanksgiving. Book somewhere between August and November since they are considered the least expensive months to cruise. You should also consider the weather conditions since booking during the rainy season can lead to trip cancellations and a very upset stomach due to seasickness.

Stay in an economy berth.

The best cabins in the house can cost you big bucks so why not settle for an economy room? You didn’t go on vacation to stay inside the room anyway. Why pay more for a room with a view when you can just use your time and money wisely by going out and enjoying the same food, activities and shows with the rest of the guests who paid for those expensive cabins?

The economy rooms will give you all the stuff you need for your vacation such as a shower, sink, a bunk bed and probably a television set. Use your room to shower, sleep and change clothes but make sure you go out most of the time to get your money’s worth.

Avoid unnecessary expenses.

Every little thing that you may need on your trip is basically included in your cruise package except optional trips to various places and other amenities such as alcohol. You don’t have to shell out money by joining these trips since you may enjoy going around places even without a tour guide. Alcoholic beverages can also be expensive so make sure you bring your own, if the cruise line allows it. Better yet, avoid alcoholic drinks altogether and stick to water, fruit juices or soft drinks.
