The iPod gives its owners a chance to broadcast any material, whether it’s music, a speech or anything that you feel many people should hear.  Creating one is not too hard, you just have to bear with the fairly tedious process.  Once you learn how to make a podcast, the entire procedure should be easy.

Step 1 - Create the Audio File

If you don’t have one yet, download or purchase a sound-editing program. (Audacity, Cakewalk Sonar, Digidesign Pro Tools, etc.) Install it on your computer.  Back the software up with the necessary audio equipment, such as a good quality microphone, speakers, etc.  When everything has been setup, you can begin making your speech or preferred podcast material.  Convert the audio file to mp3 using your sound-editing program.  If your software does not have an mp3 conversion feature, just download a free mp3 converter.

Step 2 - RSS Feed Your Broadcast

Converting the mp3 to an RSS feed seems complex, given the nature of feeds and sound files.  You can bypass all the tedious processes by downloading and installing a Free RSS creator (RSS Publisher, Podifier, etc.).  With an RSS creator installed, all you need to do is follow the steps provided by the program.  Your sound file will then become an RSS feed file right after.

Step 3 - Upload Both the MP3 and RSS Feed Files

Now that you have the mp3 and the RSS feed versions of your broadcast, you can upload them on your website.  If you used an RSS creator, the program will do the job for you.  Those who want programming freedom, on the other hand, can FTP the files to the site.  Make sure that both files are inside the same directory.

Step 4 - Validate the Broadcast

Before airing your broadcast, you should check first if it works.  Go to http://feedvalidator.org and see if your feed is working.  When the program is run through the application, the site can diagnose the errors of your file, if there are any.  Make the necessary modifications then run it again on the website.  If you get a go signal, your job is almost done.

Step 5 - Go Live

Search for websites that take in podcasts.  Good thing lots of them are found on the internet.  Just latch your podcast onto some of them and it is free for everyone to download and hear.  Do some promotions for your podcast, so many people will learn about it.  When you have already created a bunch of podcasts, you can market your website.  Who knows, you might be well on your way to being a podcast sensation.
