How to Create Karaoke Tracks
Posted on June 14th, 2009 by MarckKaraoke is an acquired taste in hobbies, although many people enjoy singing popular and favorite hits to entertain guests, friends, or just have a good time on their own. The problem with some karaoke bars and karaoke file downloads is that you sometimes can’t find that one song you always wanted to sing. here are some ways that you can try out if you want to create your own karaoke tracks.
Karaoke Software
Karaoke software depend on a MIDI file to provide the sound, and a text file for the lyrics. The end result is a .KAR file that simulates the experience of karaoke bars at nightclubs or karaoke games. Many karaoke programs are free to download on the Internet, although you need to download or create MIDI files and lyrics for the program to compile them.
Voice Removal
Another way to create karaoke tracks is to use your existing music collection, and edit them with a sound editing program like Cool Edit, Sound Forge, or Audacity. Once you removed the vocal channels of the digital music file, you are left with the instrumental part, which you and your friends can then sing to.
Raw Audio
Raw audio files have separate channels for different instruments and the vocal component of a song. The flexibility of raw audio files make them easier to work with compared to compressed file formats like MP3:
- Open the raw audio file in a sound editing program.
- Locate the channel where the wave pattern for the vocal element is found.
- Delete the wave pattern, or mute the volume of the sound channel. You can also lower the volume of the sound channel so that you can have cues to help you sing the song.
Compressed Audio
Compressed audio is a bit more difficult to work with, because the sound channels are found on only one wave pattern. To mute or lower the volume of the the voice channel, follow these steps:
- Open the compressed audio file in a sound editing program.
- Go to the “Effects” menu, and click “Voice Removal.”
- Adjust the settings of the voice removal effect. Be very careful when using the effect, because you may end up drowning out some of the instrumentals in the track.
Once you have made your own karaoke tracks, the only thing left to do would be to sing along to your favorite songs.
