The Internet has definitely changed the viewing habits of many people from all over the globe. Now you can easily download your favorite movies or television shows without having to wait for weeks or months. Today, many individuals connect their computers to their television sets to experience entertainment in its original format. If you want to follow suit, here are tips to help you get started.

Materials

  • Television with s-video connection
  • Computer or laptop with TV-out video card
  • S Video Cable

What to Do

  • Check to see if your boob tube has all the appropriate connections. Some television sets may lack the necessary connections for your downloaded content to transfer from one medium to another. See if you have an S-video connection. If you notice that the television does not have the necessary connection, use your DVD player and connect through this. The PC or laptop should be within reach of the TV set.
  • Check your laptop or PC to verify that there’s a video that can work with a TV set. Some do not have a TV-out video card. You can also install an Mpeg decoder card if the laptop does not have any connections.
  • Use the right cable to properly connect both the laptop and TV. It is advised that you use an S-video cable since it’s the easiest one to use. You can also use a VGA — a monitor cable capable of connecting the two technologies. Just take note that you can only use a VGA if you are an HD TV owner.
  • Do the necessary connection. Just make sure that the laptop and TV are turned off. Once you turn on the TV set, see to it that the right video mode is on. If for example, you use an S-video cable, then make sure to use the video option on the TV to S-video. Set the video output to the correct source on the laptop. Take note that the settings may vary depending on the laptop brand so just consult the manual if something comes up.
