How to Conceal a Pimple
Posted on December 31st, 2008 by CarmeliaHaving pimples on an important day when you’re supposed to look perfect has been an annoyance to many people. Fortunately, you don’t have to hide behind your hands to prevent your pimple from becoming an awful distraction. Here’s how.
What You Need
- Facial cleanser or wash
- Astringent
- Clean towel
- Cotton ball or cotton swab
- Toner
- Tinted moisturizer
- Tea tree oil
- Foundation (optional)
- Concealer
- Loose or pressed facial powder
- Large facial brush
Concealing a Pimple
- Wash your face thoroughly with your usual facial cleanser or facial wash. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
- Before applying anything on your face, make sure that your hands are clean by washing them.
- Apply toner all over your face, concentrating on your pimple. Toner removes all the excess oil on your face.
- Apply tea tree oil on your pimple.
- Let the toner or tea tree oil dry on your face for a bit before applying moisturizer all over your face and neck. While pimples are caused by oil buildup on your face, having dry skin can actually cause your skin to overproduce oil, so moisturizer is always important. Let the moisturizer settle on your skin.
- You have the option of using a tinted moisturizer that comes in your skin tone or a tinted moisturizer with a green or yellow tinge. The colored tinge is used to neutralize the redness that comes with pimples, making the red skin adapt to a normal skin tone color.
- Before using makeup, check for its expiry date, or at least know how long you’ve had it. Old makeup can cause irritation, allergic reactions or even aggravate your pimple breakout.
- Choose a concealer that will blend in your skin tone. You also have an option of using medicated concealers that bentonite or salicylic acid, which are both used against acne.
- If you are going to a formal event, use a makeup foundation. Use a clean makeup or foundation sponge, dip in a bit of cold water and rub it against the foundation cake. Apply evenly onto your whole face, jawline and neck. You can choose to skip this part entirely and go directly to the concealer.
- Using your ring finger (the one that exerts the least pressure among all fingers), dab the concealer directly on your pimple. Leave it for a few minutes to dry and then use a cotton swab to gently blend in the edges of the concealer application to prevent it from looking like a patch. Some people use their fingers to blend in the concealer while wet. It really depends on what is more effective, as well as the consistency of the concealer you are using.
- If you’re using loose powder, use a large brush to fluff some powder on to your brush, and apply lightly all over your face, making sure you evenly apply all over. Take care to even out near the hairline, the jawline and the neck area.
- If you’re using pressed powder, use the powder puff to apply the powder all over your face. Apply with a light hand, especially on the area where the pimple is, because you might end up rubbing the concealer off.
- You can re-apply your face powder or your loose powder throughout the day.
- Don’t touch or pop your pimple as it will only irritate it. Use a light hand when re-applying makeup on the pimple throughout the day.
Re-applying Concealer
What You Need:
- Cold cream
- Astringent
- Cotton balls
- Tea tree oil
- Concealer
- Moisturizer (optional)
What to Do
- Should you wish to re-apply concealer in the middle of the day, put a bit of cold cream on the area of the pimple, this should remove the layers of makeup.
- Put some astringent on a cotton ball and clean the pimple area and the area around the pimple.
- Apply a bit of tea tree oil directly on the pimple. Let dry.
- You can opt to put moisturizer on, but you can also skip that and apply concealer and loose powder as you usually would. Take care that your powder and makeup will blend in with the makeup you’ve applied earlier.
