How to Choose Maternity Clothes
Posted on July 19th, 2009 by CarmeliaPregnancy can be a difficult and strange time for any expectant mother. It can bring about unexpected changes both physically, and no two pregnant women are ever the same. Here’s how to save yourself some time deciding on how to choose and pick maternity clothes that are the best for you.
- Start buying when you are in your fifth month, when you will really start to show.
- Choose maternity dresses that will grow with you. Empire-cut tops and dresses are comfortable and stylish, and has lots of room for a growing belly. Just make sure that the bust area of the clothes are stretchable, to accommodate your growing breasts as well.
- When it comes to necklines, choose tops with a boat neckline or high-necked tops. These will emphasize your shoulders, making you look straighter and taller.
- Choose patterns that are light and airy when choosing tops or dresses. This will enhance your appearances and your overall mood. Avoid horizontal stripes and any loud patterns when it comes to maternity dresses.
- Getting stretch pants or a free-flowing skirt with a stretchable waistline is your best option for bottoms. Twill or denim pants would work great for casual days. Opt for darker-colored material to help make your legs look slimmer. Avoid using bright patterns and loud colors.
- Cotton or spandex jumpsuits are clothes that hug you all over, and are usually very comfortable to wear as well.
- If you need formal wear for maternity clothes, better go with something long and sweeping. It looks dramatic, but not uncomfortable.
- If you’re looking for sun dresses, look for sleeveless dresses and pair them up with fun cardigans. Pregnant women can experience quick changes in internal temperature, so having the option to simply shrug off the cardigan would be a welcome convenience.
- For rainy days, purchase a maternity trench coat. You usually cinch these below your bust, which also makes for a very interesting look.
- Use ballet shoes or flats for formal or work outfits. Stick with loafers, sneakers or flip flops on casual days. Go easy on the jewelry. It can look overwhelming on pregnant women. Use one article of jewelry at a time.
