How to Choose a Mother’s Day Gift
Posted on April 1st, 2009 by MarckShe gave you life, she set you on the right track, she loved you and nurtured you for every moment of your life. For some reason, someone out there set aside just one day of the year for everyone to show their thanks and appreciation for all the mothers in the world. The perfect Mother’s Day gift may be difficult to choose, especially for someone so special and so important to you, but here are some ways to help you find the best gift for the person who treated you best.
Keep It Simple But Sincere
You may want to give your mother a very expensive new dress or a fancy diamond necklace, but the most expensive gifts are often the most meaningless. Remember that your mother took care of you out of love, and an expensive gift may seem that you’re trying to pay back that love with something of value. Often the most meaningful Mother’s Day gifts are simple tokens of appreciation.
That doesn’t mean you should go cheap on a Mother’s Day gift, though; the perfect Mother’s Day gift should be simple but be heartfelt. Try to go to curio shops and novelty stores to look for affordable yet meaningful gifts. You can try bracelets, a hard-to-find book, accessories, or things she can put on her bedside stand to remember that special Mother’s Day occasion.
Make Sure She Can Use It
Mother’s Day should be all about your mother; if you’re going to give a gift, make sure she can use it. As much as possible, don’t buy a gift that she can share or she can use to do chores around the home. Make sure that the gift is hers alone.
Think of a gift that she will appreciate as a person, and not just as your mother. Instead of a handheld vacuum cleaner, a brand-new set of feather-dusters, or a pair of new rubber gloves, try giving your mother things she can use. Here are some ideas:
- Gift certificates for a spa, salon, or massage treatment.
- Simple jewelry like rings, bracelets, or necklaces.
- Perfume, soap, or body lotions (try to shell out some money for a more expensive brand or collection).
Get Creative
Sometimes you may run short on funds to buy a nice gift for your mother, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t give her a token of your appreciation. Here are some ways to give a memorable Mother’s Day gift without having to break your budget:
- Offer to do all household chores for the whole day, while your mother just sits back and relaxes.
- Write a simple, sincere thank-you note or poem. Place this note on the refrigerator door first thing in the morning on Mother’s Day, while a full and hearty breakfast awaits her on the table.
- Write a special song for her, and perform it on the evening of Mother’s Day.
- Make a scrapbook containing pictures, letters, and other memorabilia, and give it to your mother on that special day.
Don’t Forget the Day
Mother’s Day is celebrated on many dates all over the world, but most countries commemorate their mothers on the second Sunday of May. It’s a very easy date to remember, and you should always keep it in mind. While there are many ways and many days for you to properly thank your mom for all that she has done for you, Mother’s Day is special; mark off that date way in advance to save up and prepare for a Mother’s Day to remember.
Showing your mother your thanks, love, and appreciation does not have to fall exclusively on Mother’s Day. With these tips, though, you can show a very special gesture of thanks to a very special woman in your life.
