It’s wonderful to have a father or father figure by your side as you grow up, watching over you with love and care. All these years, your dad has showered you with affection, so it’s only right that you give some of it back on Father’s day, by giving him a heartwarming gift.

What You’ll Need:

  • A dad or a father figure
  • Money
  • Craft materials

Think About His Interests

father's day giftIt’s easy to buy something generic which you think any man will like, but the problem with these is they aren’t as sentimental as you want them to be. For example, giving him a nice shirt or cologne is okay, but chances are he might not be too keen on them and would only push them aside.

To make sure he really sees and appreciates your gift, buy something that sparks his interest. Does he like war movies? Maybe you can buy him several DVDs. If he’s always in the office, buy him a nice paperweight or a photo frame with a family picture. He wants a beach experience? Treat him and your mom to a nice Caribbean vacation. Giving him something extra-special makes it more meaningful.

Consider your budget

You want something big and special for him, but before you start thinking about getting it, you might want to look at how much money you got first: are you sure you can afford the new car navigational system you want to buy for him? If not, you’ll have to choose other gift ideas. Maybe you can opt for a do-it-yourself gift. For example, blow up an old photo of the two of you and make a frame using craft materials. Or try making a scrapbook. Remember, your dad loves you and he’ll appreciate your gift no matter how cheap or expensive it is.

Go Sporty

Most dads always have a particular sport they’re keen on. It can be basketball, football, soccer or boxing. Sometimes, they also like outdoor sports and activities, like hunting or fishing. If you know which of these your father likes, then get him something that has to do with the sport. Tickets to an upcoming game, or DVDs of past basketball or baseball seasons are cool. If he’s into golf, buy him a new set of golf clubs. A hunting jacket or a new fishing rod are also great ideas.

Make Something Personalized

Your dad is unique, so it’s only right that what you give him is also special. A delightful coffee mug is okay, but it’s boring. Spice it up by painting words over it like “Best Daddy In The World”. There are plenty other gifts you can personalize, like a t-shirt, a photo frame or even his favorite comforter.

Choose Safe Options

father's day giftLet’s say you and your dad have lost touch over the years, and somehow, you don’t know much about his interests anymore. If this is the case, then you can just pick a safe option. Remember though, that just because it’s “safe” it’s generic. Make sure what you pick out is still enticing, interesting and most of all, useful. A gift certificate to a newly-opened steakhouse is great. A health club membership or professional car cleaning services are also good ideas.

Another safe option: A heartfelt greeting card. Write something warm inside and sign it with an “I love you”. It’s not too useful, but it’ll definitely mean the world to him.

Material gifts like these are good, but the best gift you can give to your dad on his day would be your love and presence. So remember to hug him, kiss his cheek and say “Happy Father’s Day!” to him, with all your heart.
