Sony’s PlayStation Portable is one of the best gadgets many hardcore gamers prefer, but its only drawback is its battery only lasts for a few hours, three or four at the most. You have to charge it. There are times, though when you find yourself without the much needed AC adapter and/or electrical outlet. Not to worry, because there’s a simple way to charge your PSP without the charger, but using a PC.

What You’ll Need:

  • PSP
  • PSP USB Cable
  • PC or laptop

Procedure:

  1. Draining the battery before you recharge the PSP gives it a longer life. Turn on your PSP and look at the battery status, just at the screen’s right corner. When you see that the battery display has no more bars in it, it’s time to start charging your PSP.
  2. Get a USB sync and charge cable made especially for Sony PSP. Other USB cables won’t work. This power cable has two adapters, one for the PSP and one for a USB power source.
  3. Push the left button to go to the “Settings” menu. Scroll it down, and find “Power Save Settings”. Click it.
  4. You’ll see an option for the USB mode. Turn it on.
  5. Find the AC end of the PCP and plug the cable’s AC into it. Connect the other to your PC or laptop’s USB port.
  6. Go back to your PSP and scroll up unti you find “USB Connection”. Click X to begin charging. The light will start blinking orange.
  7. When the light has stopped blinking, it means that the USB is fully charged.

Some Tips:

  • Attaching the PSP to a PC also allows you to sync data between them. You can transfer photos, files, music, videos and even install games.
  • To prevent your PSP battery from getting worn out quickly, make sure you follow the first time charging requirements for it, using the regular AC adapter and an electrical outlet. This USB method works best for further charging sessions.
  • Don’t use the PSP while it’s charging. This will only take it much longer to become fully-charged.
  • Avoid dropping your PSP or putting it in extreme temperatures. This will wear out the battery pack and damage the PSP itself.

Charging a PSP without a charger will work out fine, as long as you have a PC or laptop and a USB power cable. Your gaming experience will be non-stop!
