YouTube is one of the most popular video and multimedia streaming sites on the Web. With such a large selection of videos and clips, you may not be able to access some materials if the owner of the video, or if YouTube itself, deems it inappropriate for certain age groups to view them. Here are some ways to change your age on a YouTube channel.
Why Change Your Age?
YouTube is not a repository for adult content, but there may be some videos in YouTube that are tagged as inappropriate for underage viewers. Videos with mature content need the following to be viewed:
- A YouTube account
- That YouTube account should be validated as owned by someone 18 years old or older.
Ways to Change Age
There are two ways to “change your age” in YouTube:
Creating a New YouTube Account
Once you have set your YouTube account and entered an incorrect birth date, or if you’re not old enough to access certain videos, there’s no setting that can make you change your age on the fly. In cases like these, you need to create another YouTube account. You need to make sure that your birth date is correct, and that you’re not making up any fraudulent details that may violate existing Terms of Service.
Editing Personal Details
Another way to get around the age limitations posed by YouTube is to tick the option to hide your age on the account screen when YouTube prompts you to. Some videos may not be freely available for you to access, but it can spare you the hassle of creating a new account.
By no means should you use YouTube exclusively to stream, download, or access adult content, nor should you tamper with or create new accounts for that purpose. Changing your age, however, can expand selections of video clips that can be quite useful for research or entertainment.
