Valentine’s Day coming up and you have no idea what to give your boyfriend? It’s a common problem for most girls who, despite days of hunting around for gift ideas, still come up with nothing. Here are some tips for you to narrow down the perfect romantic gift for your boyfriend.

Ask Him

Guys pride themselves with being outspoken, and when it comes to giving them gifts, sometimes the rule still applies. Catch him in a good time, but be casual about it, so he won’t feel like he’s being pressured to give an answer right away. You can also be sneaky about it, asking theoretical questions like, “What’s the most romantic gift a girl can give to a guy?” Ask him a few months before Valentine’s so he won’t be as suspicious and will be more likely to answer honestly.

Go Musical

More often than not, your man will have a preference with his type of music. Surprise your boyfriend with concert tickets for his favorite band. If he likes other types of music, why not go see a live jazz band, or the performance of a symphony orchestra? Go to a nice dinner afterwards and talk about the music you’ve just experienced.

If your boyfriend is a musician himself, you can also give him the gift of music in other ways. It can be something as big as a new guitar or any instrument from a good brand. If you’re working on a tight budget, you can also get a maintenance kit for his musical instrument, or new parts such as a new bow for his violin or new strings for his cello. Giving gifts that appeal to his creative side will surely encourage more sweet music in your relationship.

Go Techie

If your boyfriend is a bit on the tech-geek side, it’s likely that there’s tons of stuff he wants to have, he’s probably just not telling you. If he’s an avid blogger, you can get him a paid account on his favorite blogging website, or even his very own URL. Give him an external hard drive where he can put all the files he’s loathe to part with, but are bloating his computer anyway.

Of course, you can’t go wrong with video games. From buying him his very own Wii to buying him the latest games for his PlayStation or Xbox, your boyfriend will be sure to make use of your generous gifts.

You can also give techie gifts for your aspiring photographer boyfriend, such as the latest lenses for his camera or a new tripod. Technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, so you can find anything techie-related for any interest or hobby. While going techie may not sound romantic to some, he’ll surely be touched by your sensitivity to his interests and needs.

Go Sporty

It’s a tired cliché about the rivalry of men, women and the fantasy league that comes between them. While you may not be joining the fantasy league anytime soon, you can at least have an open mind. Buy him tickets to a game where his favorite team is playing. Get him an autographed item from his favorite sports star. You can also get him a shirt, scarf or beanie of his favorite team, which he’s sure to wear everyday. Sports bring more happiness to some guys more than girls ever know, so you can be sure that going sporty will be very much appreciated. He’ll surely be raving about his cool girlfriend and the awesome Valentine’s Day gift you got for him.

Go Culinary

Prepare him a very special dinner consisting of all his favorite food. It’ll certainly be a change from the typical romantic dinner with strange food you’re not sure he’ll like (like oysters). Whether the dinner consists of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in combination with steak and beer, it just proves you know your man and his stomach very well. Don’t forget to make the dinner complete with the candlelight, fine china and flowers.

Go Sexy

Sometimes buying something for yourself can also be beneficial for him. Getting sexy lingerie, some aromatherapy candles, massage oil and even chocolate paint can lead to some exciting adventures typical on Valentine’s Day.

While guys might not tell you what they want, they wear the things they love to do on their sleeves pretty open. Good intuition, imagination and some gentle questioning will definitely set you on the path of getting the perfect Valentine’s Day gift.
