How To Buy A Christmas Gift For Your Brother
Posted on January 1st, 2009 by monsterguideGetting a gift for your brother this Christmas is actually easier than getting one for your parents. Siblings usually have a closer connection with each other, much more than anyone, so you shouldn’t have any problems gaging what they want. Also, gifts given to siblings, no matter how absurd or silly, are always alright since you know they won’t be offended at all. If it’s your brother, then it’s even better; brothers are usually more open to silly gifts, being of the more raucous gender.
If you’re planning on giving gifts to your brother, you might benefit from some of these tips. You don’t have to follow them to the letter. Remember, a gift will always be great as long as it comes from your heart.
Consider His Age
Before you go to the store and buy that big robot thing for your brother for Christmas, consider whether it’s right for him. Consider his age, and not just his physical age, either. Someone can be 20 and still have the mindset of a 15-year old. It’s all about how well you know your brother. Don’t discount the physical age, though, either. After all, it would be pretty strange to give a nine-year old boy a personal digital assistant. Conversely, an action figure is not fitting for most 23-year olds, unless collecting such things is his hobby.
Get Something Useful
Unless your brother is still a little kid, it’s better that you buy something he can use. If he’s working, then a planner is a good idea; it will help him with his daily scheduling. If he’s still studying, then you can get him a book or two that will help him with his course. Remember, it doesn’t have to be expensive.
Personalize
Males may not show as many emotions as females, but if they’re given something that is personalized for them you can be sure that you’ll get at least an appreciative smile. Something that they can use, engraved with their name, is classic and nice. Just don’t put it on a t-shirt. Most people don’t consider it cool to have their names emblazoned on the shirt they’re wearing for everyone to see.
Take Into Account Personality
Is your brother the jolly, happy-go-lucky type? If he is, then you can get away with giving him one of those wacky novelty gifts with no problem. You can also give him t-shirts with zany or crazy designs. Most times, happy-go-lucky people won’t care much what they get, as long as they’re enjoying it. If your brother’s the silent, thinking type, however, he’ll be grateful for a nice book he can read over the holiday.
Consult His Friends
There are times when your brother won’t confide in you some of his wishes, especially if you’re a girl. The best way to find out is to ask his close friends. They should have an idea of what he wants for Christmas. A bonus for this is that he’ll be so surprised that you knew what he wanted, it’ll be priceless.
On the other hand, here are some things you should not give to your brother as a Christmas present, unless you’ve agreed on joke gifts. Don’t buy any of the following:
- Girly presents. Frills and lace are a no-no. So are dolls and anything related to them.
- Pets. Cute puppies and kittens may be good presents for your sister, but your brother won’t have any need of them, unless the puppy will grow up to be a ‘cool’ dog like a bulldog or a German Shepherd.
- Romance books.
Try to pick something that he’ll enjoy and that’s within your budget, and you’re both sure to have a merry Christmas.
