How to Build a Snowman

Many people get excited when winter season comes. As soon as they see the first snowflake fall, they’ll immediately run out, frolic, make snow angels on the ground and of course, build a jolly-looking snowman in the lawn. It’s an activity enjoyed by both kids and adults, and here are steps to help you out.
What You’ll Need:
- Snow
- Sticks
- Mittens and scarves
- Snowman accessories (carrot, bottle caps, hat, scarf)
- Camera
Procedure:
- Snow can be awfully cold. Protect yourself with scarves and mittens before you go out. Wear boots if the snow on the ground is already thick.
- Test the snow to see if it’s packing and “wet” enough. If the snow is too dry, usually in places where the temperature is very cold, constructing a snowman might be a bit difficult. A packing snow isn’t very wet, but not very cold, and should clump together adequately. If it does, you’re good to go.
- To begin, make an ordinary snowball in your hand, shaping it into a fine circle. Keep adding more snow, packing as you do so, until it’s too big to hold in your hand.
- Put the snowball on the ground, and start rolling it, packing more snow in, pressing in with your gloved hands. Roll it forward twice, then to the left and right. Keep rolling until you have a very big snowball of the size you like. This is the snowman’s body.
- Make another snowball, the same way you did with the first. The second ball, which is your snowman’s “torso” should be moderately smaller than the base snowball. Roll it on the ground, and when it’s big enough, lift it and place steadily on top of the biggest ball.
- Create the final snowball, which will be the snowman’s head. This one must be smaller than the middle ball. Pack snow with your hands, shaping it. Roll it a few times on the ground, if necessary. Place it carefully on the middle ball.
- To make the three layers stick together, pack some extra snow in between. If your snowman is having problems standing erect, put a few sticks down at the center, where the sections meet, then cover with more snow.
- Put a couple of large twigs on either side of your snowman for his arms.
- Give your snowman a face. Use a couple of bottle caps, rocks, or coal to make eyes. Find a horizontal twig or stick to make a mouth. For the nose, use a pointy carrot, candy cane or a banana.
- Accessorize. Dress up your snowman and make him look fashionable. Put a knitted hat on his head for warmth, and put some old vines for hair. Let him wear a scarf, apron, bow tie or necktie or sunglasses.
- Take a photo of your snowman. Remember, he won’t last for a long time!

Complete your lawn’s winter look by building a snowman. With these simple steps, you’ll have a cool masterpiece to show off.
