How to Broil Salmon

Salmon is a particularly succulent tasty fish meat on its own that needs only the simplest ingredients to bring out its flavor. For a healthy dish and to take advantage of salmon’s natural flavor, here’s how to broil salmon successfully.

Ingredients

  • Salmon steaks or fillet
  • Fresh herbs, such as rosemary, dill and thyme
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter or olive oil

Procedure

  1. Salmon is pretty versatile, which means that you can choose a variety of herbs to go along with it. If fresh herbs are not at hand, dried herbs will do just as well. Just remember that do not be too heavy-handed with the herb or mix too many kinds in as this might overwhelm the salmon’s delicate flavor.
  2. Butter or olive oil? If you’re a health buff, go with the olive oil.
  3. For butter, mix two to three tablespoons of slightly softened butter with the herbs. Spread it all over the fillet.
  4. For olive oil, spread out an aluminum foil and put the olive oil on it. Sprinkle the herbs in the olive oil and roll the salmon over it. Rub the herbs thoroughly into the salmon.
  5. Line a baking sheet with foil (or the foil you used for the olive oil) and preheat the broiler.
  6. Put the salmon on the baking sheet, rub and sprinkle salt and pepper all over it.
  7. Broil the salmon at a height of four to five inches from the heat.
  8. Broil the salmon for ten minutes per inch of thickness. This means thinner slices have shorter cooking time.
  9. When the salmon is golden brown on top, turn off the heat, remove the salmon and enjoy. You can use the olive oil and melted butter left on the baking sheet as a kind of sauce by spooning it all over the broiled salmon. Serve with lemons and a mixed vegetable side dish.
