How to BBQ Chicken

The taste of a perfect BBQ chicken is delightful, but unfortunately not many people enjoy this. If barbecued improperly, the chicken ends up still pinkish in the center, but charred on the outside. Not only does this taste bland and unpleasant, it’s also unhealthy. To help you out, here’s how to BBQ chicken.

What You’ll Need:

  • Chicken pieces
  • Gas grill or charcoal grill
  • Marinade
  • Rub or seasonings
  • Brush (to be used for the sauce)
  • Sauce
  • Side dishes
  • Oven
  • Meat thermometer

Procedure:

  1. Pick out the type of chicken you want to barbecue. Some like the legs and thighs, while others prefer the skinless and boneless chicken breasts. If you have different chicken parts, though, you’ll have to adjust the cooking times. White meat (wings and breasts) cook faster than dark meat (legs and thighs).

  3. Choose the grill you’re going to use. It depends on how you like to cook, your neighborhood and your lifestyle. If you’re a novice at grilling, it’s best to stick to the gas type, although you might find this hard to use during the holidays.
  4. Marinate the chicken. This will give it enough flavor so it’ll taste great even when it’s grilled. Choose a marinade flavor you like, such as lemon pepper or teriyaki. If in the fridge, marinate the chicken for not more than 48 hours. If at room temperature, leave it for an hour.
  5. Remove the chicken from the marinade, then rub in the seasonings. The seasoning you use depends on the type of flavor you want the chicken to have.
  6. Pre-bake the chicken to pre-cook it. Bake it at 360 degrees on your oven, until it’s partially cooked. Not only will this seal in the flavors, but it also assures you that the chicken is cooked even before it hits the grill. Boiling is preferred by many people, but this removes the flavor and makes the chicken taste bland.
  7. While the chicken is baking, ready your grill. If you’re using a charcoal type, start the coals, then let them burn until you see a white coating of ash on the coals. If you have a gas grill, preheat it to medium heat (360 degrees). Spray the grate.
  8. Put your seasoned chicken on the rack, then cover with the grill lid. Allow to cook for at least 30 minutes, checking and turning the pieces every five minutes to cook all the sides. If needed, rotate the pieces, to balance the cool and hot spots on your grill.
  9. Ten minutes before removing the chicken from the grill, glaze it again with the seasoning.
  10. When you’re done grilling, check the chicken pieces with a meat thermometer. They must have a 175 degrees internal temperature. Don’t touch the bone when you put in the thermometer.
  11. Your BBQ chicken is ready! Serve with delicious side dishes, such as baked beans, coleslaw, pasta salad and potato salad and biscuits.

Barbecuing chicken doesn’t have to be a tedious task. Follow these steps, and end up with delicious perfectly barbecued chicken everyone will enjoy!
