How To Apply Glitter to Eyes
Posted on July 28th, 2009 by ElaineAll those divas and pop stars are adding a delightful touch to their makeup by making their eyes (or rather, eyelids) sparkle Glittery eye makeup is a very popular trend today, but even if it’s delightful, it can be very messy and will look disastrous when done wrong. If you’re eager to try this look, but don’t know where to start, here’s a helpful guide.
What You’ll Need:
- Brightly colored eye shadow
- Eye glitter
- Mascara
- Foundation
- Facial cleanser
- Clean and soft washcloth
- Vaseline gel
- Q-tip or glitter applicator
Procedure:
- Purchase the eye shadow and eye glitter you’ll be using. Make sure they match well with each other. Safe choices are black, gold, pink and silver glitters. Opt for a high-quality brand rather than the cheap ones; expensive and high-quality makeup sticks better and lasts longer, and also produces less irritation on the skin.
- Wash your face with a gentle facial cleanser and water. Pat it dry thoroughly with a soft washcloth. Makeup sticks better if your skin is clean and less oily.
- If you’re planning on wearing foundation, do so before you apply the eyeshadow. Otherwise, you’ll end up smearing your eye makeup all over your face.
- Put on the eye shadow. Mix up two or three bright colors, and put them on the way you like them. If you don’t have any background on putting eyeshadow, here’s a guide to help you out.
- Apply Vaseline gel along your lash line. This is where your glitter will stick. Make sure you put in a coating that’s thick enough to hold the glitters, but will not smudge and mess up the makeup.
- Using a q-tip, apply the glitter to the lash line area, where you put the gel. Close your eyes as you do this; you don’t want any glitter to enter your eyes. If your eye glitter comes with an applicator, use it in place of the q-tip.
- If you want, apply glitter under your eyes or at the corners, as well. Do the same procedure, being careful not to put glitter in your eyes.
- Apply mascara to your eyelashes, for a more elegant look.
Some Tips:
- Only use glitter that’s made specifically as an eye makeup. Don’t use glitters made for arts and crafts.
- Be careful not to poke your eye with the glitter applicator or q-tip.
- Unless you’re going to a funky affair or if it’s part of a costume, don’t go overboard with the eye glitter.
- If you’re unsure of using eye glitter, you can just try using an eyeshadow with glitter mixed in it. There are numerous brands available today.
- Experiment with your makeup and eye glitter. Mix up different colors and hues. You’ll find a look that suits you.
When applied the right way, eye glitter looks amazing and elegant. Just follow these steps, and you’ll have a sophisticated look other women will envy!
