Applying acrylic nails is a task best left to professionals. In fact, you need to be a professional licensed to apply acrylic nails. This article will help you understand and be more familiar with the process. Here’s how to apply acrylic nails.

Materials

  • Anti-bacterial spray
  • Orange stick
  • 100/180 grit file
  • Primer
  • Nail brush
  • Cuticle oil
  • Soap and water
  • Nail clipper
  • Line eliminator
  • Nail prep
  • Monomer
  • Glass dappen dish
  • Good quality top coat

Procedure

  1. Use anti-bacterial spray to clean your nails and your hands.
  2. Gently push back your cuticles using the orange stick.
  3. Lightly buff the nail using the 100/180 grit file.
  4. Apply the tip first. Make sure that you’re using the correct tip to the nail it’s going on. Clip and file the tip into the desired shape and size.
  5. Use the line eliminator to blend by running it across the seam line of each tip. Blend using the nail file.
  6. If you’re using natural-colored tips, buff the shine off the tip. Otherwise, skip this step.
  7. Clear your nails of dust using your nail brush.
  8. Aim your anti-bacterial spray at your nails.
  9. Apply nail prep on your nails to get rid of excess oils on the surface.
  10. Carefully put a dot of primer on the center of each nail on its natural parting. You must have a steady hand to avoid getting this on the cuticles. Use only a very small amount. Allow the primer to dry very thoroughly until it turns into a white chalky color.
  11. Put a little amount of monomer or acrylic liquid in a Glass dappen dish.
  12. Dip the brush about 2/3 of the way in the acrylic liquid. Press the brush down on a piece of paper towel or wipe it on one side of the dappen to get rid of the excess liquid.
  13. Draw a line through the powder with your brush until you collect a medium-sized ball.
  14. Just let the liquid sit and absorb into the ball until you get a medium-wet consistency.
  15. Imagine each nail divided into three portions: The upper, middle and lower portion. Take the ball to the upper portion and press down, careful not to get it on the nail’s cuticle. Smooth it out using your brush. Do the same for the middle and lower portion.
  16. Blend all portions to each other by stroking downwards using the brush.
  17. Apply another thin layer over the entire nail once all three portions are done.
  18. Repeat Steps 14 to 17 for the other nails.
  19. Use the 100/180 grit file to shape the nail. Use the 180 side to blend the acrylic to the cuticle.
  20. Use the nail brush to remove the dust.
  21. Rub cuticle oil into the cuticles.
  22. Wash your hands.
  23. Apply two coats of good quality top coat to seal the acrylic nails in and help them last longer.
